Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE February 23-26, 2011 How Others See God—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it is your turn, say: Thanks for your kind words. When you talk about wanting to have a better relationship with me, it makes me feel . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Daniel 1:12-17
Truth • Our actions influence how others see and understand God. Untruths • Lost people aren’t influenced by my behavior. • Lost people really don’t expect much from believers. • No one should care about how I behave in public or private.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: Listen to the following actions taken by two guys. Read the following: John went home after a Bible study and decided to destroy all his DVDs that had any kind of pornographic suggestions. Fred went home after the same study and decided to do a better job of hiding pornographic magazines so his younger brothers wouldn’t find to them. Ask: Who did a better job of showing God to those in his world? (Answer: John did a complete job and removed temptations. Fred thought he was doing a better job through deception.) Say: We make decisions like John or Fred every day. I pray that your life lets others know you love God with all your heart. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Say: Father, help us to be like Daniel by removing temptation from our sight. Help us to remove anything that can tempt us to dishonor You. Continue the prayer. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Ask your parents: Since members of the American military are in harm’s way in several places around the world, can we take a minute to pray that God will keep them safe? After you finish, thank your parents for joining you in prayer.
