Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE June 19-21, 2011 Working Things for Good—Richard Ross, Ph.D. **SPECIAL NOTE: Beginning in July 2011, Heart Connex will discontinue its email delivery, but families will still be able to access the devotions at www.lifeway.com/heartconnex. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it’s your turn, say: If Jesus asks me to do something courageous for Him while I’m young, I know I’ll have your support and prayers. That makes me feel . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Romans 8:28
Truth • God works things for the good of those who love Him and follow His calling. Untruths • The universe is random. Whatever happens, happens. Events don’t mean anything. • The only good you get in life is what you go after yourself. • No matter how hard you try, you’re going to lose most of the time.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: As a parent reads Scripture, pantomime the actions of Joseph. (It’s OK to have fun.) At the right time, act out being thrown into a pit, traveling with your hands tied, becoming second only to Pharaoh, and speaking to your frightened brothers. When the Scripture reading is complete, sit in “the pit” and say: When Joseph was in the pit, he never could have imagined becoming second over all of Egypt or saving nations from starvation. Only God sees the big picture in our lives. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Sit in “the pit” again and include this thought in your prayer: Jesus, when I go through things I don’t understand, give me the faith to know that You are working for my good. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Ask your parents: Will you give me tips handling finances with integrity? I want to know more about how I can do this as an adult. Thank your parents for their advice.
