Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections

STUDENTS PAGE June 5-7, 2011 Gratitude for God’s Power—Richard Ross, Ph.D. **SPECIAL NOTE: Beginning in July 2011, Heart Connex will discontinue its email delivery, but families will still be able to access the devotions at www.lifeway.com/heartconnex. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a teenager goes first): Say: I get pretty busy with school, church, and all the other stuff in my life. Sometimes I forget to show appreciation for all you do for me and for our family. When I see you work so hard to provide for us, I feel . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember: 2. Read Scripture: 1 Chronicles 16:7-15

Truth • Believers have the privilege of thanking God for His mighty power. Untruths • I don’t owe God anything. • God has never used His power to help me. • Even God isn’t strong enough to help me out my mess.

3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.

4. Think It Through: Say: God not only makes promises, but He also has the power to keep them. Ask: How did God bless Moses and make good on His promise to provide for the Israelites? (God saved them from Pharaoh’s army, provided food in the desert, and so forth.) What promise did God make to Abraham and Sarah? (God promised to give them a son even though they were past that time of life.) What other examples of God using His power to fulfill promises can you name? (Possible answers: Sending Jesus to die for our sins and rise from the dead, hearing and answering our prayers, and so forth.) Share that God still has the power to make good on His promises. Say: We find them in the Bible, and we can praise Him for keeping them through His power. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Say: Father, thanks for reminding us of how You used Your power to keep Your word in the past. Thanks for using Your power to keep each promise in Your Word. Close with prayer. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Ask your parents: Aside from sending Jesus to die on the cross, what is the most amazing thing God has done for us? Give them time to share, then share your answer. Ask your parent to lead in a prayer, thanking God for His amazing actions. Copyright 2011 LifeWay Press. All rights reserved.
