Abilene Christian topped Eastern New Mexico in Lone Star Conference crossover action to improve to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play, while remaining 4-0 in the South Division. The top two teams in the North - Northeastern State and East Central - square off on Saturday.

ACU, KINGSVILLE RANKED IN TOP-FIVE

Two LSC teams are ranked in top five of the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll (Oct. 25) with ACU moving up a spot from last week to No. 3 and Texas A&M-Kingsville at No. 5 up from seventh. West Texas A&M is No. 14 after defeating Midwestern State who fell to No. 22.

DIVISIONAL PLAY CONTINUES

Division play continues in week 10 with six contests. A crossover game will be played as well. The league has played 19 crossover contests this season with the South Division holding a 16-3 advantage.

STAT LEADERS

In week nine, the LSC had three quarterbacks throw for 300-plus yards, four receivers and five rushers over the century mark and 14 double-digit tacklers. Top performances included: Passing: 410, Taylor Harris (41-60-2), WTAMU vs MSU Rushing: 22-222, Baylen Laury, SE vs ECU Receiving: 7-139, Stephen Burton, WTAMU vs MSU Tackles: 15, Curtis Jackson, ENMU vs ACU

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK SOUTH OFFENSIVE

Taylor Harris, West Texas A&M University, SR, QB, Whitesboro, Texas, Whitesboro Harris passed for 410 yards and four touchdowns as the Buffaloes took a crucial 42-29 win over Midwestern State, marking the third time this season that Harris has passed for four or more touchdowns.. His 41-of-60 passing performance also marked the first time that a WT quarterback has both completed more than 40 passes and attempted 60 or more passes in a single game since Keith Null went 42-of-63 (for 595 yards and seven TDs) against Abilene Christian on Nov. 22, 2008.

SOUTH DEFENSIVE Curtis Jefferson, West Texas A&M University, JR, S, Houston, Texas, Cy-Ridge Jefferson has made a habit of returning interceptions fairly long distances. Against 13th-ranked Midwestern State, he returned a Zack Eskridge interception 59 yards for a score to mark the second time this year he’s returned a pick-six. He returned an interception 53 yards for a TD earlier this season at Southwestern Oklahoma State.

SOUTH SPECIAL TEAMS Christian Brom, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, SR, K, McAllen, TX, McAllen Brom posted his second straight multi-field goal game of the season for the Javelinas. After missing a 38-yarder at the beginning of the game he bounced back with a 32-yard field goal to open the scoring against Tarleton State. He kicked his first ever game-winning field goal when he drilled a 41-yarder with 21 seconds left to provide the margin of victory.

NORTH OFFENSIVE Baylen Laury, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, SR, RB, Forney, Texas, Forney HS Laury turned in the best outing of his career in a 20-19 loss to rival East Central. He rushed for a career-high 222 yards on 22 carries and reached the endzone twice. His 222 yards is the best in the Lone Star Conference this season and is the sixth-best single game outing in Southeastern history. He averaged 10.1 yards per carry and the game was his fourth 100-yard rushing performance of the season. He also added five catches for 21 yards, finishing the day with 257 all-purpose yards in the contest.

NORTH DEFENSIVE Dontae Smith, East Central University, JR, CB, Deland, Florida, Deland HS, Smith had the game-winning 36-yard interception return for a touchdown while recording five total tackles (four solo) and three pass breakups in the Tigers’ come-from-behind 20-19 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State. One of Smith’s tackles went for a loss of five yards. He now leads the team with five interceptions on the season.

NORTH SPECIAL TEAMS Cody Lenz, Northeastern State University, JR, P, Deer Park, Texas, Deer Park Lenz had a spectacular day, punting four times for a 46.5 yard average despite the rainy playing conditions. The junior punter had one punt inside the UCO 20 yard line and his longest punt was a 53-yarder. With Northeastern State holding an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter, Lenz had two punts in the final 5:19 that were of 50 and 43 yards to keep the Bronchos from putting together a serious comeback bid. - Players of the Week continued on next page -

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

Ryan Lincoln, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, was a major factor in the Javelinas’ 13-10 win at Tarleton State. In the second quarter, he tied the game with a 2-yard touchdown run out of the Wildcat formation. He also added a career high 10 catches for 72 yards in the game. Edmund Gates, Abilene Christian University, recorded his fourth straight 100yard receiving game of the season, fifth of the 2010 campaign and 10th of his career last Saturday in ACU’s 53-14 win over Eastern New Mexico including three scores. ... Gates had a 50-yard touchdown reception from sophomore quarterback Mitchell Gale in the first quarter as the Wildcats rolled to a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. ... Gates now has 48 receptions in eight games this season, one away from tying his previous season-high of 49 set last year in 13 games. ... Gates ranks fifth on ACU’s career receiving list for receptions with 140, third in yards with 2,514 (needs just 16 yards to pass former great Johnny Perkins, who is second with 2,529 yards), and is tied for third with 24 career touchdown catches. Josh Neiswander, Angelo State University, threw for the fifth-highest total in school history with a season-high 385 yards in the Rams’ 61-17 win over Incarnate Word Saturday. Neiswander, who surpassed 300 yards for the second consecutive week, completed 24-of-34 passes to move within two of tying ASU’s career completions mark held by Ned Cox (589) and hit four different receivers for touchdowns. In all, Neiswander hit 10 different receivers, a week after hitting 11 different targets against then-No. 15 Midwestern State. Neiswander’s yardage was the second-highest of his career and helped the Rams post their second-highest point total ever in a single game. Neiswander has 16 touchdowns and just five interceptions in seven games this season. Marcus Sanders, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, keyed a Javelina defensive effort that held an opponent scoreless in the second half for the second straight week. He led the Hogs with eight tackles and two tackles for loss. He picked up a quarterback hurry and harassed Tarleton QB Nick Stephens into a 16-of-30 effort for only 130 yards passing. Terrance Preston, Angelo State University, notched an interception for the second time in two games and for the third time this season when he picked off a Thomas Specia pass in the third quarter of Saturday’s 61-17 win over Incarnate Word. The Cardinals trailed 45-10 after the first half and were looking to get back in the game on the opening drive out of the break, but Preston ended the charge on the second play. The Rams collected another interception on the next drive and lead the Lone Star Conference with 2.0 interceptions per game. Preston added a career-best six tackles, which tied for second among ASU defenders. Spencer Covey, Abilene Christian University, has been a weapon all season for the Wildcats, but maybe never more so than in ACU’s 53-14 win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. ... Covey – who leads NCAA Division II with 22 touchbacks – had eight of those against the Greyhounds. ... Covey was kicking both into and with a gusty wind, but he was able to keep one of the league’s top passing offenses backed up on its own end of the field to start eight drives. ... Only twice after those eight touchbacks did the Greyhounds even cross their own 40-yard line. Garrett Tidwell, Angelo State University, the third time proved to be the charm for Tidwell, who was held to one yard on two punt returns before busting loose for a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown late in the third quarter. The return was the longest of Tidwell’s career, surpassing a 55-yard return earlier this season against then-No. 9 West Texas A&M. Tidwell is averaging a blistering 26.3 yards per punt return, one of the top marks in the country, and leads the Lone Star Conference with 28.4 yards per kick return. The versatile player has contributed 109.7 allpurpose yards per game and added a 15-yard scamper from the wildcat formation in the second quarter against UIW. Tidwell’s two scores helped the Rams post the second-highest point total in school history in the 61-17 win. Shad Baichtal, West Texas A&M University, knifed in from the left side of the line to block a Midwestern State point-after attempt late in the third quarter of WT’s 42-29 win over the Mustangs. Kenny Davis, Northeastern State University, tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Northeastern State to a 39-28 win over Central Oklahoma. Davis was 17-of-31 for 268 yards with a pair of TD passes to Trey McVay. He had zero interceptions and was not sacked, while rushing seven times for 28 yards. His 1-yard plunge early in the fourth quarter put the RiverHawks ahead for good, 3228. The TD was set up after he hooked up with Edward Victorian on a 43-yard strike on the final play of the 3rd quarter. The RiverHawks improved to 4-0 in LSC North, 5-2 in LSC action and 5-3 overall. Tony Valenzuela, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in the first 100-yard rushing performance of his career, running for 105 yards against third-ranked Abilene Christian. ACU entered the contest ranked 17th in the nation and currently rank second in the Lone Star Conference in rushing defense. He averaged 5.2 yards on 20 carries and caught a 26-yard pass to finish with 131 all-purpose yards. Charles Opeseyitan, East Central University, rushed for 121 yards on 28 carries and caught four passes for 34 yards (for 155 all-purpose yards) in the Tigers’ 2019 come-from-behind win at Southeastern Oklahoma State. It was the second straight game in which Opeseyitan has gone over 100 yards this season.

LSC NOTEBOOK (SUBMITTED BY LSC SID’S Abilene Christian The ACU Wildcats ran their record to 8-0 for the second time in three seasons Saturday with a 53-14 win over Eastern New Mexico. ... ACU is trying to finish off the first 11-0 regular season in program history and needs to beat Angelo State, West Texas A&M and Southwestern Oklahoma State in the last three weeks in order to make program history. ... An 11-0 finish would also give ACU its second LSC title in the last three years and fourth LSC title in program history (1973, 1977, 2008). ... The Wildcats have scored 54 and 53 points, respectively, in their last two games, the eighth time in head coach Chris Thomsen’s tenure that the Wildcats have scored at least 50 points in back-to-back games. ... Since dropping a 33-30 decision to Eastern New Mexico in Abilene in 2005, Thomsen’s Wildcats have reeled off five straight wins on the field over the Greyhounds (an ACU win in 2007 has been vacated), outscoring them by a combined 219-78 in those five on-field victories. ... Saturday’s win over Eastern New Mexico marked the 50th regular-season game that Thomsen has coached since the beginning of his second season at the helm (2006), and ACU’s on-field record in those 50 games is a remarkable 43-7 (.860 winning percentage). ... ACU senior wide receiver Edmund “Clyde” Gates recorded his fourth straight 100-yard receiving game of the season, fifth of the 2010 campaign and 10th of his career last Saturday in ACU’s 53-14 win over Eastern New Mexico. ... Gates had a 50-yard touchdown reception from sophomore quarterback Mitchell Gale in the first quarter as the Wildcats rolled to a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. ... Gates now has 48 receptions in eight games this season, one away from tying his previous season-high of 49 set last year in 13 games. ... Gates ranks fifth on ACU’s career receiving list for receptions with 140, third in yards with 2,514 (needs just 16 yards to pass former great Johnny Perkins, who is second with 2,529 yards), and is tied for third with 24 career touchdown catches. ... weapon all season for the Wildcats, but maybe never more so than in ACU’s 53-14 win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.

Angelo State Piling up the points: With a 61 point outburst in Saturday’s win over Incarnate Word the Rams tallied the second-most points in a single game in school history. The 61-17 final, which gave Angelo State its first LSC South win, is second only to 69 points scored against Fort Lewis (Colo.) in 1993. Picked off: Angelo State’s secondary notched two interceptions against the Cardinals and has logged at least one interception in each contest this season. Terrance Preston and Markeith Jones both notched takeaways. Jones is tied with Alvin Johnson for the team lead at four interceptions – the most by a single player since 2001. As a unit, the Rams defense has the best per-game mark in the conference with 2.0 interceptions per game – 14 in seven contests. Protecting the quarterback: ASU’s offensive line didn’t allow a sack against Incarnate Word and have given up four all season. The Rams were second in the country in sacks allowed per game last week, behind LSC and national leader Central Oklahoma, who allowed one sack in their loss to NSU Saturday. Streak stopped: ASU ended a four-game skid and a four-game losing streak on homecoming with the lopsided victory over Incarnate Word. Notable night for Norcott: John Norcott burst through the line for a 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter Saturday and nearly had an 82-yard reception for a score in the third quarter, but it was pushed back due to a block in the back. Norcott finished the game with 30 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving. Aerial assault: Blake Hamblin’s first career pass was a memorable one as he hit Joey Night for an 86-yard gain in the fourth quarter Saturday. It was Hamblin’s only throw of the game. That yardage, combined with Josh Neiswander’s 385 yards, the second-highest of his career and fifth-best effort ever by a Ram quarterback, put ASU four yards short of tying the school mark for passing yards. The duo combined for 471 yards, just short of the 475 yards ASU accumulated against Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1986. Neiswander Closing in: Neiswander sits two completions from tying ASU’s career completions mark held by Ned Cox (1983-1986). He has 587 career completions entering the State Farm Big Country Concho Valley Shootout with Abilene Christian. He also has 7,139 career passing yards, second-most by an ASU quarterback, and is 704 yards from reaching Cox’s career mark. Hitting a target, or 10: Neiswander’s favorite route is, “The open one.” He showed no discrimination against Incarnate Word as he hit 10 different targets, a week after hitting 11 different receivers against Midwestern State. V’Keon Lacey was his top choice against the Cardinals with eight catches for 96 yards. It’s good!: Angelo State freshman Jacob Decker kicked field goals from 21 and 25 yards Saturday, snapping a streak of four consecutive misses by ASU’s specialists. The successful kicks were the first of Decker’s career.

Central Oklahoma Central Oklahoma dropped a 39-28 LSC North Division decision to Northeastern State last Saturday . . . The Bronchos were held to a season-low 331 total yards, though running back Josh Birmingham had another stellar outing in finishing with 164 allpurpose yards . . . The redshirt freshman rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries while adding 62 yards and a score on a career-high six receptions . . . Birmingham now has 1,001 rushing yards, becoming the 24th 1,000-yard rusher in school history . . . He also moved into fifth place on UCO’s single-season scoring list with 102 points on 17 touchdowns (14 rushing, three receiving), needing five TDs to tie the school records of single-season touchdowns (22) and points (132) . . . Birmingham has 1,300 all-purpose yards, needing 71 to move into 10th place on the school’s single-season list . . . Sophomore quarterback Ethan Sharp was 19-of-38 passing for 216 yards and two TDs, the sixth straight game he’s passed for 200-plus yards and the seventh time this season he’s had at least two TD passes in a game . . . Sharp moved into eighth on the school’s single-season pass yardage list with 1,936 yards, needing 55 more to move into seventh . . . Junior wide receiver Daniel Morrell ranks seventh in career receptions (98) and eighth in career receiving yards (1,460) at UCO.

East Central The Tigers’ 22-19 home win over Eastern New Mexico, followed by the 20-19 road decision at Southeastern Oklahoma State this past Saturday, marked the first time that ECU recorded back-to-back victories since the 2005 season. ECU beat Southwestern Oklahoma State (27-20) and Central Oklahoma (42-39) that year, which was coach Tim McCarty’s final season of his first stint as the Tiger head coach... ECU’s 15 interceptions on the season are well above last year’s total of just nine for 11 games. The Tigers have three games remaining this season. Cornerback Dontae Smith leads ECU with five pickoffs and safety Norris Wrenn is next with three...

ECU has 60 tackles for loss this season through eight games after recording 65 in 11 contests in 2009. Armonty Bryant leads the way this season with 11.5 stops for losses of 55 yards...The Tigers had a rusher go over 100 yards for the third straight week against SOSU. Charles Opeseyitan accomplished the feat the past two weeks while Domonique Massengill went over the century mark in yardage three weeks ago against Incarnate Word...Zack Patteson has gone over 500 yards in receiving this season (506) after catching four passes, including one TD against SOSU. Patteson caught 36 passes for 436 yards and six scores in 2009...Quarterback Tyler Vanderzee has thrown for 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns with 12 interceptions this season. He has completed 49.2 percent of his passes.

Eastern New Mexico The Eastern New Mexico University football team dropped a 53-14 decision to fourth-ranked Abilene Christian in Lone Star Conference crossover action. Tony Valenzuela turned in his first 100-yard rushing performance, while Curtis Jackson made a career-high 15 tackles and returned a fumble 15 yards for a score. This week, the Greyhounds close out their home scheduled with a LSC North match up against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Incarnate Word For the fifth straight week Incarnate Word fell behind in the first quarter. Two of the previous four times the Cardinals rallied for one win and one overtime loss. When Angelo State got up 17-0 after one and when UIW scored the first touchdown of the second quarter to close to within 17-7 there was hope. But things didn’t work out as ASU put up 28 in the second on the way to a 61-17 win, UIW’s worst defeat in its short two-year history. The bright spots for Incarnate Word included the game-high 76 net yards rushing from Trent Rios including a 41-yard scamper for a TD. Quarterback Paden Lynch went 10-18-0 for 73 yards and one touchdown. That TD was a flea-flicker handoff to Rios who threw back to Lynch who hit Dominic Hamilton for a 32-yard TD. Hamilton finished with six catches for 91 yards and the touchdown.

Midwestern State Midwestern State suffered its second straight LSC South Division road loss to fall to 6-2 overall, 5-2 in LSC play and 2-2 in the LSC South... The Mustangs fell to 7-27 against ranked opposition since joining NCAA Division II in 1995... MSU dropped to 1-13 against teams ranked in the AFCA Top 25 on the road... Midwestern fell behind 35-3 late in the third quarter Saturday night at West Texas A&M. It was the largest deficit for MSU during the Bill Maskill era. The last time MSU trailed by 32 points was on Sep. 2, 1999 when it suffered a 45-3 defeat at Texas State... Midwestern State was held without a rushing touchdown for the first time this season... MSU quarterback Zack Eskridge threw a career-high four interceptions with two of them coming off of the hands of junior wideout Desmond Ratliff. It was just the third time Eskridge had thrown multiple interceptions and was the first time throwing two against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 18, 2008... Eskridge completed three touchdown passes and now has a TD pass in each of his last 21 games... Redshirt freshman Zak Bracken became the second Mustang player to return an interception for a touchdown this season when he rambled 20 yards for a score late in the third quarter. Tyler Maner returned a pick 36 yards for a TD on Sep. 11 at Eastern New Mexico... Midwestern State now has 11 interceptions this season - all by different players... Freshman Neiko Conway recorded MSU’s first blocked punt this season. The Mustangs blocked 10 last season... Sophomore punter Gunter Elenburg averaged 45.3 yards per punt on six efforts with a long of 55 yards placing one inside the 20-yard line...

Northeastern State Northeastern State improved to 5-3 overall, 5-2 in the Lone Star Conference and 4-0 in the LSC North with a crucial 39-28 victory over rival Central Oklahoma on Saturday to reclaim the President’s Cup Trophy. The RiverHawks had clutch performances from quarterback Kenny Davis, who passed for 268 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 28 yards and another score. Defensively, linebacker Jon Evans logged 10 tackles, but Travis Boswell collected six stops from his defensive end position, with 1.5 tackles-for-loss, a quarterback sack, forced a fumble and had a quarterback hurry. With two LSC North games to play, the RiverHawks hold a slim one-game lead over this week’s opponent, East Central. A victory would clinch at least a share of the North Division title. The RiverHawks have won three straight games and four of their last five outings. The five wins is the most in head coach Kenny Evans’s tenure and it also marks the first time the team has won five games since the 2001 season. The remainder of the Northeastern State slate includes this Saturday’s 2 p.m. game at East Central, a 2 p.m. home game with Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 6 and a road LSC crossover tilt at Midwestern State on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

snapped a six-game SE winning streak in the rivalry... SE leads the series 45-43-6 all time... SE held advantages in rushing and passing yardage, finishing the game with 336 total yards, compared to ECU’s 216... SE allowed two interception returns for TD’s, one a 100 yard return that is the longest play surrendered in school history... Baylen Laury rushed for a career-high 222 yards on 22 carries with two TD’s... he averaged 10.1 yards per carry... it was his fourth 100-plus yard game of the season... it was also the best outing by an LSC runner this season... Logan Turner had his lowest passing outing of the season, throwing for just 82 yards... he also threw four interceptions, matching the total he had for the season coming into the game... the game was delayed for two hours before kickoff due to lightning and featured a pair of half-hour lightning delays in the first half.

Southwestern Oklahoma Twice delayed, Southwestern Oklahoma State University could not be denied capturing its second football win of the season with a 24-10 beating of Texas A&MCommerce Sunday on the road. The Bulldogs had to endure a three-plus hour storm delay that suspended the game with SWOSU leading 17-3 with 12:40 to play in the fourth quarter. Once play resumed, SWOSU snuffed the Lions after yielding an early score and added another score of their own for good measure. SWOSU improved to 2-6 with the victory and 2-3 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. The game had been scheduled to be played on Saturday but was postponed to Sunday after heavy storms pounded the Commerce area for much of the day. SWOSU quarterback Dustin Stenta was again the driving force behind the Bulldogs. The freshman signal caller completed 19-of-39 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown. He also was the team’s top ground gainer accumulating 76 yards on 11 carries.

Tarleton State

The Tarleton Texans fell to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the Lone Star Conference South Division with a 13-10 loss to No. 7 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. LAST WEEK: Tarleton’s Blake Wiest had a chance to hit a 44-yard field goal with 9:00 left, but he missed the kick wide right. However, a Javelina penalty moved the ball five yards closer, but Wiest missed the 39-yard attempt to keep the game at 10. The missed field goal was just one of several opportunities the Texans had to score. A dropped pass in the endzone by the Texans as well as several missed interceptions that went off the hands of the Texans hurt the purple and white cause. So did taking away two turnovers and not putting points on the board afterwards. Tarleton was led by Jacob Rowe with 14 total tackles, including nine solo and five assisted blocks. He also forced and recovered one fumble and had three tackles for a loss of minus-11 yards. He had one pass break-up and a sack for minus-six yards. Damian Perkins also had 14 tackles, including two solo and 12 assisted stops. Brandon Johnson had 13 tackles, including 11 solo and two assisted stops. Tarleton had 239 yards of total offense, including 109 yards on the ground and 130 yards through the air. The defense allowed 357 yards of total offense, including 222 yards passing and 135 yards rushing. THIS SEASON: The Texans are being outscored 34.5 to 19.9 this season. Tarleton is averaging 317.4 yards of total offense, including 96.6 yards rushing and 220.8 yards passing. The Texans are allowing 401.1 yards of offense, including 141.2 yards on the ground and 259.9 yards through the air. Evan Robertson leads the team with 134 carries for 537 yards and four touchdowns. Nick Stephens is 85-of-175 passing for 1,205 yards and seven scores. He is averaging 241.0 yards per game. Jeken Frye leads the team with 38 receptions for 584 yards and five touchdowns. Perkins is tops on the squad in tackles with 21 solo and 49 assisted stops for 70 total tackles. Brandon Johnson is second with 63 total tackles, including 40 solo and 23 assisted stops. Jamaal Steamer leads the team with 9.5 tackles for a loss of minus-40 yards, including 4.5 sacks for minus-23 yards. The Texans have 54 tackles for loss, including 11 sacks. The defense has taken away five interceptions and has 28 pass break-ups, 33 passes defended and 14 quarterback hurries. THIS WEEK: The Texans will play at No. 22 Midwestern State at 7 p.m. in Wichita Falls for Tarleton’s sixth and final road game of the season.

Texas A&M-Commerce

Inclement weather surrounded the A&M-Commerce game vs. Southwestern Oklahoma State. First, it postponed the game from the original date and forced the game to be moved to Sunday. Next, with 12:06 left in the fourth quarter, the two teams were forced to wait an additional three hours before resumption. The total duration of the game on Sunday was six hours and 11 minutes. The A&M-Commerce defense scored its fifth touchdown of the season on the second play following the weather delay. Getting into the act was junior defensive lineman Tramaine Williams, who picked up a fumble forced by Lions’ teammate Michael Cleveland and ran it in from 30 yards out. Senior quarterback Adam Farkes threw for a season-high 264 yards on 21 for 39 passing with two interceptions. Freshman wide receiver Kenzee Jackson had his first 100-yard receiving game of his young career. He had a careerbest 101 yards on another career-best 10 catches. Sophomore linebacker J.T. Bates had a career-best 10 stops in the defeat.

Texas A&M-Kingsville The fourth quarter has been the domain of the Javelinas this year. They have won

each of the past three games with fourth quarter drives. For the season, they have outscored their opponents 45-7 in the fourth quarter. On Saturday, the Hoggies were tied 10-10 at Tarleton State when they got the ball with 4:03 remaining in the game. A third down pass to Sherman Batiste kept the drive alive and then Jonathon Woodson carried the ball five straight times to put the team in field goal range. Christian Brom came on with 25 seconds left in the game and drilled a game-winning 41-yard field goal. Sophomore running back Jonathon Woodson has become the multi threat for the Javelinas that the coaching staff envisioned when they recruited him out of Marshall High School in Houston three years ago. After Saturday’s 162yard performance, he has put together a pair of outstanding games in a row and appears primed for a great finish to the season. While Woodson did not pick up 243 all-purpose yards like he did against West Texas A&M, he still had a profound impact upon the win at Tarleton State. Despite lacking the classic running back size he has proven that he can run the ball between the tackles. He carried the ball five straight times on the final drive of the game and put the team in position to win with a field goal. Woodson finished the game with 78 yards rushing on 17 carries, added 56 yards on five receptions and had one kick return for 28 yards. The Javelinas struggled to complete many downfield passes at Tarleton State, but were able to take the bubble screens and running back flares that the Texan defense was giving up. No one took advantage of the short passing game than senior Ryan Lincoln. He grabbed a career high 10 catches for 72 yards and also ran for a touchdown. He now needs only seven more catches to become the first player in school history to reach 200 career receptions. He moved into third place in career receiving yards on Saturday and now has 2,564 yards. Senior place kicker Christian Brom is putting together a career year. He has already kicked a career high 10 field goals and has connected on a personal best 76.9 percent of his attempts. On Saturday, Brom drilled the biggest field goal of his career when he split the uprights with a 41-yarder with 21 seconds remaining to give the team a 13-10 victory. It was his first career game-winning field goal. Brom has his sights set the school record of 16 field goals in a season that was set by Walter Rule in 1985. He is also two field goals away from moving into second place on the career list for field goals made. He is 31-for-45 in his career. Brom currently leads the team with 49 points on the season and has 214 in his career which is 10th in school history.

West Texas A&M PASSING A-PLENTY - Taylor Harris’ 41-of-60 passing performance against #13-Midwestern State, it marked the first time that a WT quarterback had both completed more than 40 passes and attempted 60 or more passes since Keith Null went 42-of-63 (for 595 yards and seven TDs) against Abilene Christian on Nov. 22, 2008. FOUR MORE TD TOSSES - The Midwestern State game marked the third time this season that Taylor Harris has passed for four or more touchdowns. He also threw for four scores on Sept. 11 at Southwestern Oklahoma State (in just one half of play) and tossed five TD passes against Southeastern Oklahoma State the following weekend. JEFFERSON COULD GO ALL THE WAY - WT safety Curtis Jefferson (Jr-2L, Houston, Texas) has made a habit of returning interceptions fairly long distances. Against 13th-ranked Midwestern State, he returned a Zack Eskridge interception 59 yards for a score to mark the second time this year he’s returned a pick-six. He returned an interception 53 yards for a TD earlier this season at Southwestern Oklahoma State. WHERE’S HE THROWING? - Entering Saturday’s contest, Midwestern State quarterback Zack Eskridge had thrown just two interceptions over his first six games. However, West Texas A&M intercepted Eskridge four times, marking the first time that the Mustang quarterback has thrown more than two picks in a single game. WT turned three of those four turnovers into touchdowns. RECEIVER’S-ONLY CLUB - Taylor Harris attempted 47 passes against Midwestern State before throwing an interception, bringing an end to a string of 147 passing attempts without an interception. One week earlier, he did not thrown an interception at Texas A&M-Kingsville, finishing the game completing 17 of his 31 passes. Harris’ previous interception came at the 8:38 mark of the third quarter at Angelo State. VOSS NOTCHES ANOTHER CAREER-HIGH - Sophomore inside linebacker Kyle Voss has recorded back-to-back career-high 10 tackle outings. He first turned the feat last week at #9-Texas A&M-Kingsville, then followed with a 10 stop (two solo, eight assists) outing against #13-Midwestern State. He also logged a pass breakup and a quarterback pressure against the Mustangs. RETURN TO NORMALCY - One week after Texas A&M-Kingsville became the first team to out gain West Texas A&M (racking up 504 total yards compared to the Buffs’ 340), the Buffs rolled to 447 yards against 13th-ranked Midwestern State. Meanwhile, the WT defense held MSU to its lowest offensive output of the season at 363 total yards. BURTON KEEPS ROLLING - WR Stephen Burton registered seven receptions for 138 yards and one TD against #13-Midwestern State, marking his second 100 receiving yard outing of the season (he had 144 yards against Tarleton State) and gave him six 90+ receiving yard performances in eight games this season. PAPER OR PLASTIC – While West Texas A&M defenders don’t offer that option, they have been providing plenty of sacks. The Buffs have registered an LSC-high 23 QB sacks for minus-176 yards. Leading the Buffs’ sack attack is Shad Baichtal, with a league-leading 7.5 for minus-76 yards.
