OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Wesley Wood, Eastern New Mexico University, accounted for 267 yards of total offense and all three touchdowns against 17th-ranked West Texas A&M, in the Wagon Wheel Game, last week. He rushed for 79 yards (5.3/carry)against the conference’s top run defense, with a 34-yard touchdown sprint. Wood also connected on scoring passes of 19 and 32 yards against the LSC’s top pass rush. He helped to convert seven third downs and one fourth down. Anthony Johnson, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, continues his standout play at running back. The senior who is in his first season with the Javelinas, has rushed for 100 yards in each of the last two games. He had a game-high 135 yards rushing including a 46-yard run. His 135 yards and 21 carries are a season high for a Javelina. Donovan Roberts, Angelo State University, rushed for 104 yards to help the Rams rally to beat Texas A&MCommerce, 17-16. It is the first career 100-yard rushing game for Roberts as a Ram and he is the first player to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark this season for Angelo State. He caught one pass for eight yards and averaged 7.4 yards per carry in the comeback victory. Neiko Conway, Midwestern State University, led the tackle chart in the No. 12 Mustangs 35-31 win over Abilene Christian. The cornerback from Houston/Lamar chalked up eight tackles, six solo, and was credited with one pass breakup in the win as the Mustangs held ACU on downs at the MSU 49 on the final Wildcat drive. Jayson Serda, Eastern New Mexico University, intercepted a pass at the ENMU at the Greyhound four-yard line and returned it 49 yards, drawing a penalty, to set up the Hounds at the West Texas A&M 32-line. The field position allowed Eastern to score with seven seconds left in the opening half, and pull within one touchdown of 17th-ranked West Texas A&M. He also made five tackles, with three solo stops. Kevin VanVoris, West Texas A&M University, had an impressive day in a 44-21 win at Eastern New Mexico. Had a career-high 70-yard punt getting the Buffs out of their territory early in the game. It was the secondlongest punt in the conference this season. He punted five times (221 yards) for a 44.2 average with three punts inside the 20, including two inside the seven yard-line. Had seven kickoffs for 453 yards and a 64.7 average with five touchbacks. For the season, he has a 40.5 average per punt with 33 punts for 1337 yards, three touchbacks, four fair catches, 14 punts inside the 20 and five over 50 yards. He has 53 kickoffs for 3375 yards and a 63.7 average with 37 touchbacks. Greg Saladino, Midwestern State University, remained perfect for the season on point-after attempts, hitting all 5 as No. 12 Midwestern State won at Abilene Christian 35-31. Saladino has connected on all 32 PATs this season and extended his string of consecutive makes to 37, the second-longest in Midwestern State history. Saladino only punted once, but it was a beaut of 41-yards into the wind that was downed at the ACU 1-yardline. He also allowed only one return of his six kickoffs, tallying five touchbacks in the contest. Dylan Baca, Eastern New Mexico University, punted seven times for 276 yards and had a second-quarter punt go out of bounds at the West Texas A&M seven-yard line. The Buffaloes went three-and-out on the ensuing possession and the field position enabled Eastern to score on a 10-play drive. Saul Meza, University of the Incarnate Word, playing in his first game of the year, Saul Meza was a perfect 4-for-4 on his kicking opportunities. He drilled a pair of field goals from 30 and 36 yards and was also 2-for-2 on extra-point attempts. He scored eight points in the team’s 28-20 loss to McMurry.

LSC NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s) Abilene Christian
The Wildcats’ 35-31 loss to Midwestern State on Saturday virtually assures that they won’t be making a seventh straight appearance in the NCAA Division II football playoffs. ... At 4-4, the Wildcats are not above the .500 mark this late in the season for the first time since the final week of 2005 when they lost to Midwestern State to finish 4-6. ... With losses last week at West Texas A&M and Saturday against Midwestern State, the Wildcats have lost back-to-back games for the first time since Oct. 17 and Oct. 24, 2009, when they lost at home against West Texas A&M and at Tarleton State, respectively. ... The Wildcats haven’t lost four regular season games since 2005 when they finished 4-6. ... That was also the last season the Wildcats lost as many as four Lone Star Conference games in a season. ... Saturday’s game marked just the sixth time since ACU’s current playoff streak began in 2006 that the Wildcats lost a game in which they scored at least 31 points (31 vs. West Texas A&M in 2006, 73 vs. Chadron State in 2007, 36 vs. Northwest Missouri State in 2008, 41 vs. Central Missouri in 2010, 49 vs. Washburn in 2011 and 31 vs. Midwestern State in 2012). ... One week after gaining just 210 yards of total offense and failing to score for the first time in 11 years in the loss to West Texas A&M, the Wildcats had one of their best offensive games of the season against Midwestern State. ... ACU rolled up a season-best 335 yards through the air and its 427 yards of total offense was its second-best output of the season behind only the 461 yards the Wildcats posted in the season-opening win over McMurry on Sept. 1. ... For the first time since before 2004 the Wildcats lost a game in which they did not commit a turnover. ... ACU had won 26 straight games dating back to the 2004 season in which it did not give the ball away, including twice in 2012 (at Delta State and vs. Tarleton State). ... ACU senior quarterback Mitchell Gale moved into second place on the Lone Star Conference and ACU career touchdown pass list with his three TD strikes against Midwestern State. ... Gale now has 92 career touchdown passes, moving him past former West Texas A&M great Keith Null, who had 91 from 2005-08. ... Gale trails former ACU all-America Billy Malone for the all-time LSC and ACU lead. ... Malone threw 114 touchdown passes from 2005-08. ... Gale is now one of only two LSC and ACU quarterbacks to throw for at least 11,000 career yards, joining all-time leader Billy Malone (12,012 yards from 2005-08). ... Gale – who threw for a season-high 335 yards against Midwestern State – now 11,181 career passing yards, leaving him just 819 yards from joining Malone as the only two LSC and ACU passers to ever top the 12,000-yard mark in a career. ... Gale threw two touchdown passes to Taylor Gabriel on Saturday to give them 17 career touchdown hookups, the most TD passes Gale has ever thrown to a teammate, topping the 16 he threw to current New York Jets receiver Clyde Gates from 2009-10. ... Gale finished his career by throwing for 1,293 yards and 12 touchdowns

Midwestern State is the only opponent the Wildcats have played more than once during Gale’s career that he will finish with a sub-.500 record against (2-3). ... In fact, only two opponents (West Texas A&M and Midwestern State) have beaten Gale and the Wildcats more than once since Gale became the Wildcats’ starter six games into the 2009 season. ... With Gales’ three touchdown passes on Saturday he’s now thrown for more than one touchdown in 28 of his 39 career starts (ACU is 22-6 in those games), and he’s thrown for at least three touchdowns in 18 of his starts (ACU is 13-5 in those games). ... Gabriel now has five multi-touchdown-catch games in his career and eight 100-yard receiving games in his career. ... In three career games against Midwestern State, Gabriel has caught 23 passes for 287 yards and five touchdowns.
Angelo State Down 13-0 at half, the Angelo State Rams (4-4, 3-2) rallied to defeat the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (1-6, 1-4) 17-16 in a Lone Star Conference game. Jarred Martin’s 27-yard field goal with 6:55 left in the game proved to be the winning margin for the Rams. The Rams limited Texas A&M-Commerce to just 11 second-half yards to fuel the comeback … Donovan Roberts carried the ball 14 times for 104 yards for his first 100-yard game of his career for the Rams. It is the first time a Ram running back has eclipsed 100 yards this season. The senior averaged 7.4 yards per carry against Texas A&M-Commerce … Texas A&MCommerce was able to rack up 229 yards of offense and a 13-0 lead going into halftime. The Rams defense came out with adjustments as the Lions were limited to only 11 yards in the second half. The Lions failed to gain a yard in the fourth quarter … The Rams are the No. 1 overall defense in the Lone Star Conference only allowing 311 total yards per game. It is the fourth week that the Rams defense has been the top defense. Angelo State is the No. 22 defensive team in the nation as well … The Rams have only allowed 163.13 passing yards per game which ranks the pass defense at No. 10 nationally. Opponents are being held to 93.5 yards less in the air compared to 2011. Abilene Christian is the only team to pass for over 300 yards and five opponents have been held under 200 yards passing … In 19 games under defensive coordinator Mike Walton, the Ram defense has held opponents under 100-yards rushing eight times. This season Chadron State, Abilene Christian, and Texas A&M-Commerce have all been held under 100 yards. It is the second-straight season that the Rams have held Texas A&M-Commerce under 100 yards.
Eastern New Mexico The Eastern New Mexico University football team held the ball for 22:15 of the opening half and used interceptions from Jamal Candley and Jayson Serda to stay within one possession of 17th-ranked West Texas A&M. In the first 30 minutes, the Hounds rushed for 134 yards against the top-ranked run defense in the Lone Star Conference, including 55 yards from Wesley Wood and 41 from Derek Kendall-Campbell. The Buffaloes pulled away in the second half, to claim the Wagon Wheel Game, but the Hounds rushed for 205 yards and finished with 38:04 in possession time. This week, they Greyhounds will visit nationally-ranked
Midwestern State.
Incarnate Word The One that Got Away For the third time this year, the Cardinals lost a game that they will likely look back on and think they should have won. The first two were a 34-24 loss against Eastern New Mexico at Dallas Cowboys Stadium and the second was last week in a 20-17 loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville. This week, the Cardinals jumped out to a 10-0 lead on visiting McMurry only to see the War Hawks score the next 28 points in the game en route to a 28-20 win. The Cardinals controlled the first and fourth quarters against McMurry, but could not match the War Hawks dominance in the middle two quarters. Returning Kicks Juan Asencio and Marcus Wright each entered the season as #2 on the depth chart for kick returns. However, each has moved into a starting role on kick returns and it appears unlikely they will relinquish those spots anytime soon. On Saturday, each player picked up big yardage on when given the opportunity. Asencio returned three kicks for a total of 109 yards, the third highest total in school history. He had a long of 49 yards that was an electrifying return in which he batted down a bouncing ball and ran back to his own 2-yard line before turning on the jets and nearly broke it for a touchdown. For the season, he is averaging 28.7 yards per return which would be a school record if he can get enough returns to qualify. Wright had a pair of kick returns against McMurry and tallied 58 yards with a long of 36. He has 12 returns on the season for a total of 302 yards. He averages 25.2 yards per return which would also be a school record and he has already returned enough kicks to qualify for the school record. He had a season high 146 all-purpose yards in the game against McMurry, it was his third time this year that he has gone over 100 all-purpose yards in a game. Picking Up Yardage With starting running back Trent Rios missing two of the last three games due to injury, true freshman Joseph Sadler has seen an increase in his chances to tote the ball. Over the past four weeks, he has carried the ball 35 times for 183 yards, an average of 5.2 yards per carry. Last week, Sadler led the team with 64 yards on seven carries while catching four passes for 18 yards. He had a season long 32-yard run in the first quarter. He is currently fourth on the team in rushing yards (184) and receiving yards (132) and tied for third in receptions (17).
Midwestern State The Mustangs 35-31 win at Abilene Christian moved their current win streak to six games, equaling the fourth-longest winning streak in MSU history, matching the 6-game streak of Sep. 10, 1949-Oct. 15, 1949. Of those five longest winning streaks, three have occurred in the Bill Maskill era … The Mustangs had to record their third consecutive second half comeback, the first time that’s happened since MSU reinstated football in 1988. It’s just the third time since 1988 that MSU has recorded three or more second half come-from-behind wins, the most being four in 1991 … Midwestern State has a record of 9940 since the start of the 2000 season, the most of any Lone Star Conference institution … With its sixth win of the season, Midwestern State clinches its 13th consecutive winning season. It’s the longest active string of winning campaigns among Texas Division I or II institutions … MSU collected 510 yards of total offense against the Wildcats to mark the third time this season the Mustangs have crossed over the 500-yard plateau … Keidrick Jackson remains the leading scorer in NCAA Division II Football and the Lone Star Conference, with his 14 touchdowns for

Texas A&M-Kingsville Anthony Johnson continues his standout play at running back. The senior who is in his first season with the Javelinas, has rushed for 100 yards in each of the last two games. He had a game-high 135 yards rushing including a 46-yard run. His 135 yards and 21 carries are a season high…After scoring twice on the ground in the season-opening game against Central Washington, Jonathan Woodson finally found paydirt again versus Tarleton State. He scored twice once on the ground with a 26-yard run in the first quarter and once on a kickoff return…Woodson’s 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the first return for a touchdown in his career. Woodson entered the game with over 2,000 yards in kick return yardage but had never scored on a kickoff. After sidestepping the initial coverage unit, the Javelina senior outraced the remaining members of the coverage unit for a touchdown. It was the first kickoff return for a score by a member of the Javelinas since the 2008 season and the 10th longest. It was the longest since the start of the 21st century…Woodson reached a significant milestone during his 26-yard touchdown run on Saturday. He passed the 5,000-yard mark in career all-purpose yardage. Woodson is just he fifth Javelina player to pass the mark. …When Woodson
crossed the goalline with 14 seconds left in the opening quarter on Saturday it marked the first time this season that Javelinas scored a touchdown in the opening period. A&M Kingsville had managed just three Matt Stoll field goals in the first quarter in the first seven games of the season…Two players had their first career touchdown receptions on Saturday. Clyde Lee had a 5-yard touchdown reception in the first half of Saturday’s game. It was the first scoring catch of the Boston College transfer’s career as a Javelina. Prater, who redshirted last year, caught a 51-yard pass from Bryan Ehrlich. It was not only his first TD reception but his first career catch with the Javelinas. The catch was the second longest of the season for the Javelinas…Junior punter Angel Millan tied a school-record on Saturday evening with an 87 yard punt. The record was originally set by punter Doug Schaumburg in 1985 against Angelo State…Freshman linebacker Mark Savere had a pair of interceptions on Saturday night as the Javelinas finished with a season-high three. Savere and Steve Harris, who had the other interception in the, share the team lead with two picks on the season.
