Main Street Rehabilitation Project UPDATE – August 20, 2015 Hi everyone!!! Here is the latest update on each phase of the Main Street Rehabilitation Project. Phase 1A – Water Line Replacement – COMPLETE!  The City recorded the Notice of Completion closing out the first phase of work!  The total construction cost was $634,998.87, approximately $28,500 under the authorized project budget.  The work was completed 1 week ahead of schedule! Phase 1B – Sewer Lining Project  The sewer lining is substantially complete.  The City and contractor will be working to complete minor ‘punchlist’ items over the next 2 weeks. Phase 2 – Main Street Paving and Related Improvements  At their August 11, 2015 meeting the Placerville City Council awarded a construction contract to George Reed, Inc. for the Phase 2 project in the amount of $1,001,181.50. George Reed, Inc. was the lowest bidder.  The George Reed, Inc. bid was so favorable that the City was able to include several ‘alternate’ items in the awarded contract.  The ‘base project’ includes the following elements.

-

Grinding approximately 3” of existing asphalt and overlaying new asphalt

-

Constructing required disability access upgrades at crosswalks and constructing related bulb-outs

-

Correcting existing drainage deficiencies

-

Abandoning portions of existing waterline, where appropriate

-

Constructing the Reservoir Street waterline extension

The City Council was able to award the following ‘alternates’ as well. -

Upgrading bulb-outs from decomposed granite to decorative concrete.

-

Lighted Bollards

-

Upgrading standard asphalt and striping in crosswalks to decorative concrete

The following alternates were not awarded due to insufficient funding at this time. The City is looking into future revenues or the use of City staff and resources to complete these items. -

Trees/Landscaping

-

Tree Grates

-

Benches

-

Bike Racks

-

Trash/Recycling Receptacles

-

Vendor Stall Marks

In weighing several factors, including avoiding disruption or inconvenience to many downtown events and upcoming holidays, the City decided to defer construction to early Spring 2016. Below is a tentative schedule of the upcoming work. Begin Construction: Mid-March 2016 Majority of Work Complete: End of April 2016 Concrete Bulb-outs: Two weeks in May 2016 Punch List Complete: Mid-June 2016

Special Thank You The project team would like to thank Mark Acuna for his help coordinating the electrical service to the lighted bollards. At the encouragement of Cleve Morris and Rebecca Neves, the project team consulted with Mark who worked with PG&E to identify much more favorable connection points for the lighted bollards. The team’s collective efforts saved the City over $30,000 by significantly reducing the length of conduit trenching required to extend electrical service to the lighted bollards. Contacts If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact City staff or our consultant team!
