Feetures Foot Facts
We are going to be hosting a simple but useful “Make It
Bulky Overlock Foot #12
and Take It” class for anyone who does not currently sew
Bulky Overlock Foot #12 works well when creating and attaching piping or strung pearls and beads to clothing, craft, or home decorating projects. Cords up to 1/4” in diameter and sequins and beads up to 3mm easily move under the foot, which guides them into position for stitching.
but would like to try it. Sewing machines (for class use) and project materials will be provided for each participant. This class will be limited to six (6) people and will be open on a first come first serve basis. If you know of someone, now is their chance to try it at no cost or obligation. More details will follow as to a time and date. * Trivia answer: Fritz Gegauf who founded the company must have known that the sewing machine brand that he established would receive the highest acclaim from the sewing world. This is why he chose the name BERNINA, taking the Piz Bernina - soaring 4,048.6m above sea level as his inspiration. Mountain peaks and sewing machines both stand for high goals and high expectations: Piz Bernina, the “mountain monarch of the eastern Alps” and BERNINA, the Porsche among sewing machines. * Continued information from FEETures Foot Facts of the foot keeps the fabric in contact with the feed dogs of the machine. The engraved line on the top of the foot indicates the right edge of the groove. Foot #12 is also useful when completing stitching next to an invisible zipper. The groove accommodates the bulk of the zipper as it stands on edge. Adjust the needle position to accurately match the previous stitching and easily sew beyond the end of the zipper.
As the name implies, Bulky Overlock Foot #12 was designed to stitch bulky sweater knits using an overlock stitch. One side of this foot is higher then the other, allowing it to accommodate the uneven layers encountered when seaming sweater knits. The extra space under the foot helps prevent knit fabrics from stretching as they are stitched. Using Foot #12, heavy handknit sweater sections can be sewn together by machine instead of by hand. The large groove under the foot easily guides the edges of handknit fabrics, even those with irregular shapes. The groove under Foot #12 is also useful when making and attaching piping. The raised portion of the sole accommodates the multiple layers of fabric in the piping seam allowance, while the groove allows the filler cord to pass easily under the foot, and the lower section……………... “CONTINUED on the left side of page”
