Sewing Center News Hello Everyone! *

Isn’t the rain wonderful? A little here and a little there and oh

how it refreshes things! Summer is beginning to show signs of fading. The mornings and evenings are cooler and the days are getting shorter. As I type this newsletter I am thinking about some the perplexities of life that we face and how things can change so rapidly. This brought to mind a little saying ―Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape‖ I don’t know who to Newsletter Spotlight

credit this saying to but it is so true. It does not matter if it’s winds of adversity, changes in job or personal life, or whatever if we can be flexible we can survive. It is when we become rigid that life gets tough and the going gets rougher. Now this does not mean that we need to be ―swayed by every wind of doctrine‖ either. It is our challenge to find the middle of the road. *

Wow! Bernina University was interesting! Bernina University is

a week long event for dealers to learn, network, create, etc. I learned a lot while I was there. But was San Antonio ever hot and humid! I was glad to be back in Kansas. Bernina unveiled the new 5 series machines. The 530, 550QE, and the 580. They are awesome machines. The 530 and 550QE are replacing the 430 and 440QE respectively. The 580 replaces the 640. Stop by the shop for a sneak peek. The actual machine will be arriving in our shop early to mid September and we plan to have a welcoming party at that time so watch our website blog for details. *

We are participating in the ―Million Pillow Case Challenge‖.

When you come to the store ask if you can make a pillow case. We will also have all potential new machine customer make a pillow case when we demo a sewing machine. More details will be forthcoming but we intend to donate these pillow cases to a local charities such as cancer centers, women’s shelters, special needs homes, etc. These pillow cases are quick & easy to make & they turn out really nice. Come, help us put a smile on somebody’s face.

OUR SUPPLY IS DWINDLING! Check out our SCORCHING HOT close out deals on the Aurora 430, the Aurora 440 QE, and the Artista 640 machines. These machines are being retired from the BERNINA line so check them out today. * Just because BERNINA retires a machine does not mean they will not continue to support the machine. As an example the original 830 has been around for 40 years. We are just now reaching a point where some parts are no longer available. There is not another sewing machine manufacture on the market that can boast this type of service and support. Most companies you are fortunate if you get 10 years of service and support.

If you want to make one at home & drop it off you can do that to just visit www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases. Page 1 of 3

Invisible Zipper Foot #35 Invisible zippers are an excellent closure option for garment seams where an unobtrusive closure is desired, as the only part of the ―invisible‖ zipper that shows on the outside of the garment is the narrow pull tab at the end of the opening. Invisible zippers also have other decorative uses, such as on accessories and home furnishings. In traditional methods of invisible zipper insertion the coils must be pressed open to expose the ―well‖ at the base of the zipper coils.. The special design of BERNINA’S Invisible Zipper Foot #35 eliminates this tedious task. Designed specifically for simple insertion of invisible zippers. Invisible Zipper Foot #35 has two parallel channels in its sole which accommodate the coils of the zipper. Rather than being set perpendicular to the bed of the machine these grooves are set at a diagonal and are engineered to ―open‖ the coils as the zipper tape passes under the foot. The grooves in the sole of Foot #35 are precisely placed so that no adjustment of needle position is necessary; the zipper is easily inserted using a straight stitch with the needle in the center position. In addition, the narrow needle opening allows stitches to be precisely placed in the ―well‖ created at the base of the zipper coils.

Zipper Foot #4 Slim & narrow, zipper foot #4 is designed for sewing close to zipper coils while feeding the fabric evenly & smoothly. The large toe of this foot rides along the side of the zipper coils while holding the fabric & zipper tape in contact with the feed dog of the machine. The notches on each side of the foot make room for the needle to pass through the fabric and zipper tape without hitting the foot. Because the foot is stationary & the needle is moved to one side, the foot provide strong contact with the fabric & feed dog when sewing, offering stability & helping to avoid skipped stitches. This foot can also be used when stitching close to a ridge or raised edge, as in making and attaching pipings, welting, and attaching snap tape. BERNINA also makes an Invisible zipper foot #35.
