Another academic year has come to an end – this last year has flown over! This has been a challenging year for the school, but the commitment and dedication of the staff has helped the school remain focussed on what we are here for and that is the children. Our job is to ensure that all the children learn to the best of their ability in a happy, caring environment – and we have achieved this! We have welcomed some new Governors onto the Governing Body of the school and together we are working to take the school forwards. Throughout the year the children have been involved in a variety of activities – the ‘Make, Bake, Grow and Show’ Show, Mac Millan Coffee Morning at school and in the Ridley Arms, regular assemblies in church, Red Squirrel watch, a visit to Whitehouse Farm, singing for the Queen’s birthday, to name but a few exciting things! The children also prepared a booklet showing the school as it is now for an ex-teacher from the school, Miss Joan Huntley, who taught at Stannington First School for 30 years and was recently 100. The children have, of course, been working very hard in class and we are all proud of their achievements. Our school is part of the community and wherever possible, we will support the community. Jane, our Cook, buys local produce for our monthly ‘buy local food day’. The children thoroughly enjoy the meat from Moorhouse Farm Shop, the ice-cream from The Parlour and the cheese from The Cheese Factory. If anyone has a glut of any fruit or vegetables from their gardens, Jane would be happy to prepare them for the children in addition to the produce that the children grow themselves. Our community room has been well used this year by the Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Youth Club, Parish Council, Make, Bake, Grow and Show Committee and of course the firework display. Our baby and toddler group, TreeTots has had a very successful first year; it is lovely to see so many little people and their parents / grandparents and carers in school. The staff and I would like to wish you all a happy, safe holiday and look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 6th September at 8.50 a.m.
