All in the Family The news out of Charlottesville, VA this weekend was not good. The ugliness that dwells in this country raised its head again. Our fathers and grandfathers fought a war to rid the world of the Nazi flag, and there it was, paraded on our streets. We can also think back not too long ago when our fellow citizens in Portland, OR and the University of California-Berkley campus became violent and destructive over the result of the election and those whose opinions differed from theirs. As followers of Jesus, we must not embrace either side in these conflicts. The racism and elitism that runs rampant in a vocal minority has no place among us. Why? *Because God created one race. If you believe in the Genesis account of creation, you have no option as one set of parents to start off the human race. Ultimately, we are all family (Gen. 1:26August B-days 31, Gal. 3:28) 12 Clara Douglas 12 Gloria Perez *Because God wants all of us in His family. The 12 Belinda Strader statements like, “whosover will” and “that none should 17 Becky Dennis perish” tell us that He has not eliminated any from the 17 Esmeralda Uribe realm of His love (John 3:16 & 2 Pet. 3:9). 21 Patricia Kulp 24 Lyndon Mellinger *Because His plan is for us to live together forever— 26 Todd Lansford “every tribe, nation, people, tongue…” (Rev. 5:9 & 28 Helen Beane 7:9). 29 Ava De Los Santos *Because love is the chief characteristic of Christians. 30 Keith Morgan “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love 31 Kyle (Lindsey) Richardson one another (1 John 4:11).
Generous Hearts
The Supply Never Ends 1 Kings 17:8-16 1. Desperate Times call for a Desperate Faith. 17:1-7 2. Desperate Faith will find Divine Supply. 17:8-16 a. Obey the Unbelievable. b. Be Aware of Unexpected Vessels. c. There’s no Miracle Until You Try. 3. Divine Supply will carry us through the Darkest Days. 17:17-24 a. If He can Raise the Dead, what can’t He do? b. Be prepared for God to Invade Our Hearts. "But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.” –Luke 4:25-26
Hearing Assistance Available Personal hearing assistance devices are available on Sundays so that you may better hear the sermon. Please see Scott on the stage before services start for your device.
Proverbs 22:9, 3:9-10, Luke 6:38 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor. Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.
Sunday School Curriculum August 20 Psalm 141:1-10 The Protector
Awana means: Kids Bringing Friends Into The Book of Life. Think about this: John 1:41-42a says, “He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus.” God the Father brings someone to Christ. That someone tells family and friends and they are drawn to Christ. Our Great and All Powerful God draws kids/parents to our church by using Awana kids/students to simply invite their friends to come. WHY? To hear the Gospel. You as a believer are called to share the Christ, that’s one reason God saved you. You can share the love of Christ with kids and students by serving in Awana on Wed. nights, 6:10pm to 8:10pm. You can even serve part-time (2 or 3 Weds a month, or from 7-8pm, or at special events), so come and learn more about what the LORD is doing through the Awana ministry on Wed., Aug 16, 7:00pm. I will be looking for volunteers to make phone calls to help get families scheduled for their photo sessions and will also need hosts/hostesses for the sign in table on the days of the sessions. Please let me know if you are interested in helping me with this endeavor. Cindy 361-853-9967
