Opening Kick Seeking their third win in a row, the Bullets host local rival Messiah College in a non-conference tilt this afternoon. The Series The Falcons hold a 29-11-5 lead in the all-time series that dates back to 1966. Last Time Out Junior Lucas Weissman and freshman Precious Ozoh scored their first collegiate goals as the Bullets blanked previously-unbeaten York (Pa.) College 2-0 here at Clark Field this past Saturday evening. Gettysburg was edged 10-9 in shots, but freshman Thomas Keane made five saves to register his first collegiate shutout against a York squad that had scored 11 goals over its first four matches entering the night. Last Meeting Peter Como made three of his four saves in the two overtime periods and the Bullets battled Messiah, ranked 11th nationally at the time, to a 0-0 tie in Grantham last season. The Falcons outshot the Bullets 18-4, including 11-3 in regulation and 7-0 in the second half. However, Gettysburg's back line allowed just one shot on goal during the stretch, with Como making a save on a header in the 73rd minute. Messiah continued to apply pressure in the two overtime periods, when they outshot the Bullets 7-1. But that's when Como came up big, snuffing out one shot in the first OT and two more in the second extra session. He secured the clean sheet when he deflected a shot at the near post as time expired. Jonathan Weaver earned a shutout for Messiah without making a save.

Regional Ranking Gettysburg was ranked No. 7 in the first NSCAA MidAtlantic Region poll, which was released yesterday. The Bullets were one of four teams representing the Centennial Conference, along with No. 1 Franklin & Marshall College, No. 4 Haverford College, and No. 9 Johns Hopkins University. It is the third year in a row that the Bullets have earned a regional ranking, as the team spent four weeks in the poll last season, including one in the national rankings as well. Freshmen Making a Mark Though the Bullets returned a veteran lineup this season, graduating just one starter, the team has utilized a strong freshman class in the early going thus far. Head coach Mark Mettrick has started at least four freshmen in every game, and in two matches the Bullets have started six first-year players. Among the Conference Leaders Senior KJ DePontes has distributed three assists over the team's first three matches to rank first among the Centennial Conference leaders. In addition, freshman goalie Thomas Keane ranks first in save percentage (.909) and is second in goals-against average (0.50). Scouting Messiah  Messiah is off to a 3-0-1 start following a pair of home victories this past weekend. The Falcons defeated Oglethorpe 5-1 on Friday before blanking Oswego State 3-0 on Saturday. Junior Kirby Robbins scored three goals over the two matches, including two versus Oglethorpe.  Robbins has scored four goals for the season while classmate Colby Thomas has contributed two goals and two assists. In goal, sophomore Connor Bell has yielded just one goal over 350 minutes for a 0.26 GAA.
