Kiwanis magazine editor Roe Fulkerson, after the 1919 Birmingham Convention knew that Kiwanis needed a new motto. The willowy, balding, mustached wordsmith pondered this brainteaser during his train ride home: “What simple words represent Kiwanis’ purpose?” At its January 1920 meeting the Kiwanis International Board found an agenda item listed as “A Motto for Kiwanis.” When president Henry Elliott reached it, he asked for suggestions. Trustee Fulkerson spoke first, placing “We Build” on the table. After some discussion the motion was passed. As expected, the 1920 Portland Convention delegates officially approved the new motto. At the 1921 Cleveland convention, Fulkerson said: “I have written for you probably 100,000 words, every one of which has been forgotten save two, “We Build.” I am prouder of them than any other accomplishments of my life. I believe those two words perhaps justify my Kiwanis activities.” ….. from ”The Kiwanis Legacy 1915-2004”

Free Fishing Clinic This popular service project is Saturday, April 11th from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Sandy Knoll County Park. No fishing experience is needed, as the kids do the fishing. Our members work with the kids and help at the food and registration areas. This is a great opportunity to do some fun hands-on activities with young people. We have two shifts: 8:30 to 12:00 and 12:00 to 3:30. Or, you can come for whatever time you have that day…and bring your kids or grandkids to fish! Sign-up to work or contact Mike Sarg or Jon Kiel for more information. See enclosed flyer.

Club Speakers – Contact Host Persons - May May 7 – Jim Pouros May 14 – Business Meeting May 21 – Richard Wibe May 28 – Denis Gonring Arrange for your program by the last week of the month prior to your date, so the speaker/program can be listed in the newsletter. Tell your speaker the time, location and length of time they can talk. Be sure to re-confirm your speaker a week before they are scheduled. Go to “PortalBuzz” for the entire year’s hosting schedule. This is an annual day where all members of the Kiwanis-family around the world join together in a day of service. The projects are large-scale and often partnership-oriented—perfect for raising awareness about a Kiwanis club’s impact on the community. April 11, 2015 Come and be part of our Free Fishing Clinic!!
