The Brewers will look to finish the weekend strong after taking one of two yesterday against Clarkson University here in Poughkeepsie. Vassar swung the bats well on Saturday, posting 16 runs over the two games, highlighted by the performances of Nick Johnson and Brett Zaziski. Johnson totalled six hits in eight at-bats, walking two times while doubling twice. Zaziski had five hits, including two doubles and a homer to right field. Adam Erkis picked up his second win of the year, allowing no earned runs over 6.1 innings of work. This season, the Brewers have gotten steady production from its top of the lineup, as its 2-5 hitters are all sporting over a .333 batting average. Zaziski leads the club with a .576 clip, while Johnson has a team-best seven doubles. Defense has been an issue though, as the Brewers committed 10 errors yesterday.

A Look at the Golden Knights Clarkson rallied after falling in game one yesterday to pick up game two, being helped by eight unearned runs in the nightcap. The Golden Knights did swing the bats well though in the second game, connecting for 12 hits while driving in 12 runs. Clarkson played pretty solid defense all day Saturday, making just two gaffes in the field. The Golden Knights are led by John Coleman, who moved his average to .326 Saturday, as he comes into today’s game with 15 hits and nine runs on the season. Chris Miller is batting .320 with seven runs scored, and David Wixted comes into Sunday’s twinbill with a team-best 10 runs scored. Anthony Pedrazo is batting .308 in limited action, and Dom Pirro leads the team in on-base percentage, getting on at a .520 clip. One would expect the Golden Knights to bring back Pete Roma and Greg Jasek Sunday, as the pair is the team leaders in ERA this season, and neither pitched Saturday.

Brewers vs. Clarkson All-Time The Golden Knights of Clarkson University come to town holding a 32-9 all-time advantage in the all-time series with the Brewers. Last season, these two teams only played twice, with the squads splitting a twinbill in Poughkeepsie. Yesterday, the team’s split the doubleheader, with Vassar scoring six runs in the sixth inning to earn the victory while Nick Johnson had was 6-for-8 on the day. Brewer Bio on . . . Joe LOvizio Lovizio, a senior hurler from Lindenhurst, NY, has settled in as the ace of the young Brewer pitching staff this season. On a group that currently sports seven freshman and sophomores, Lovizio has been the rock for the Brewers on the hill. Lovizio will sit in the mid to upper 80s with his fastball, but also features a 12-to-6 curve ball and a solid change-up with late tail. His command and ability to throw all of his pitches for strikes is his calling card, and his demeanor and calmness with the ball in his hands sets a great example for the rest of the staff. This season, Lovizio has started twice, going 1-1 with a 1.50 earned run average over 12 innings of work. He has allowed just two earned runs and 11 hits in 12 innings, holding opposition to a .234 batting average. Wednesday against Skidmore, the senior went five innings, allowing no runs and surrendering just three hits in a 9-3 win over the Thoroughbreds.
