Area 1C September 26, 2013 Minutes Attendance: Marco Quezada (AAD), Steve Bickel (13), Art Ponce (40), Anne Louit (214), Jacob Mathew (2), Craig Dunkin (Post Season Coord), Aldo Maccheroni (88), Frank Bagheri (Atreas), Tom Regan (VIP), Dave Lemos (98), Scott Davis (ARA), Sef Motearefi (A. Womens Advocate), Jane Mason (AD), Sandy Ponce (1304), Juan Campo (908), Lisa Durcharme (908). Meeting called to order at 7:10 once we had a corium for Regional Commissioners. Introductions: Jacob Mathew (2) Treasurer attending for Ken Joe, and Sef Motearefi, she has agreed to join Area Staff in a new role as Women’s Advocate. Motion to approve August minutes made by Steve (13) and second by Aldo (88). Motion approved Upper Division – Peter (Written report) Have ID cards for Sandy, Anne and Art. Season is going fine, so far no problems with blackouts, lost fields etc. With Rob, Jane and Al Prado’s help we finished the full schedule for the remainder of the season. U16‐ 11 games, U19 10 games. Five double yellows (all boys) and one season suspension in GU19 for threatening language. Season ends 11/3 (Assuming no rainouts) Playoffs: U16 – 8 teams, U19, 4 teams. Medals ordered 3 forfiets because of no coach ID’s Referees are doing an excellent job reporting scores, thank you. Referee Report – Scott 6 sendoffs – 2 straight reds, 4 double yellows GU19 send off, possible appeal 50 cautions Referee coverage, by and large all regions below target, 2 ‐72%, 13‐92%, 40 – 42%, 60‐48%, 98‐99%, 214 –250%, 908‐ 96%, 1304 – 57%. Scott has encouraged assigners to reach out beyond their regions for help. Biggest issues would be coach ID’s. Not a lot of assessments requested, Craig Dunkin to be assessed this Weekend. Main problem has been because of lack of schedule, so hard to plan a game for assessments. Region 88 volunteered their games for assessment, if needed. Scott has an initiative to create a hybrid referee scheduling program, using a combination of Region 2 and Arbiter. Hope to use for YDP season. Please can we get turf rules posted on Area website. Coach Update – Mike (nor present) Request by Mike Shintaku regarding coach mentoring, would like to see some guideline for coach mentoring. Jane has asked Mike Stiles and Mike Shintaku to talk to maybe come up with some Area guidance on how this would look.
Discussion: Anne would recommend they be at least U12, if not intermediate certified at least to be mentored for UD play. That agrees assessments should continue after certification on team management, sideline behavior, substitution etc. Treasurer Report – Frank See financials attached Frank separated out the finances for Freeway Jam, and the money raised was $17,233.85, thanks you Craig. Frank recommends getting player count from Jane @ end of September, will send out invoices to all regions and fees will be due by next meeting. If numbers change Frank will reconcile. Jane requested that we stay current with National and not be more than 1‐30 days past due. Area Report – Jane Women’s Advocate: This is a new position on the Area board, and Sef has kindly agreed to head this up. David Lans from Region 88 came up with the idea, so now we have to come up with ideas on how to define the purpose. Request that each Region identify an active Women in their region who would willing to be on a committee or at least like to have some input on what this could look like. One idea and with enough women, we could have a women’s day in each region, women referee on games and an information tent. Lynn‐Berling Manuel (National Office) is supper excited and would love to get involved and help with Marketing ideas. eAYSO RIF – To not delete board members when term is up, but to make inactive, this way it keeps the board history intact. eAYSO Access rights‐ Starting next year once someone’s term expires in eayso, their access rights will automatically disappear, saving RC’s a lot of time in cleaning out all the rights that are out there. Security of Player Info‐ Please be careful when you are using dropbox or google docs or any of those platforms, that you do not put documents there that talk about disciplinary items or have any player information. Need to be very always when we share player information or databases. Website: we all have our own region logos on our websites, but please consider using the AYSO original logo as important branding of AYSO as it is a National program and we want that to be recognized by all. Treasurer Course‐ There is no longer an online treasurer curse it has become to old and information is no longer current. Training is still held by webinar once a month and also can be done in person. Inter Section Play: Jane was under the impression that this was not allowed and has been re‐educated on this. As long as you are not losing the integrity of the Region or Area program there is no reason why you cannot play across Area and Section boundaries. Regional Reports: See attached Going to try reports sent in advance, RC’s can disseminate more information and it gives us more time to talk about other issues and get good feedback and share ideas. Additional Regional Info‐ Aldo (88) they are having an LA Galaxy clinic this week and will send out to all of the regions, if you would like to participate. Anne had a bench mark question: When you draft teams do you try to spread out the referees to those teams. Discussion and ideas shared. Meeting adjourned 9:10pm Submitted by : Marco Quezada, Typed by Jane Mason

Region 98 – Dave Lemos We have 872 Registered Kids. Slight increase from last year. 148 Registered Volunteers. Started the Season 2 weekends ago and have heard everything from "The Snack Bar Food, isn't FREE, Oye!" to ‘I didn’t know that you have to practice with the Team, I just want to play the games". What did I get myself into? No wonder everyone grabs a drink at these Area meetings. LOL My Registrar quit about 10 times but finally settled in. Uniforms from Score were backed up had a heck of a time getting everything I needed from them but ALL good now. Lastly, trying to Get Prado to do a 2 segment/split day basic referee course for those Coaches / Parents that can do an 8 hour course. I should know more later this week. Made some changes in our Guidelines on the way we pick our Coaches for All Stars/Tournament Teams. Basically following National Rules rather than allowed to have first choice if you come in First during Fall Season. Interlocked with 908 and that's been going great! That's it for now!
