Calico Christmas Sampler Block 3– “Merry”
3” x 7” Start with 4” x 8” background. Trace appliqué patterns onto fusible web (or print onto printable fusible with ink jet printer). Iron fusible to wrong side of wool. Cut out on the lines. Stitches are shown in blue on placement pattern. Trace the letters and detail onto Sulky Tear Easy Stabilizer. Pin in place and stitch the letters with Valdani 12 wt. pearl cotton Black Ecru using a chain stitch. Make tight stitches to perforate stabilizer for easy removal. Use placement pattern to fuse appliques onto background. Stitch red wool appliqué using blanket stitch and Burgundy Valdani . Trace the detail on the red wool onto Sulky Tear Easy Stabilizer and pin in place. Stitch the pine detail using an outline stitch and Green Valdani. Use a Lazy Daisy stitch with Light Ecru Valdani to make the flower.
Stitch the holly with a running down the middle of the leaves with green Valdani. Sew three red beads to the center of the holly and one green bead in the center of the flower as shown in red on placement pattern. Use a pinking rotary blade to trim background to 3” x 7”. Proudly display until next month! Enjoy!
