Calico Christmas Sampler Block 6 – “Christmas”
3” x 9” Start with 4” x 10” background. Trace appliqué patterns onto fusible web (or print onto printable fusible with ink jet printer). Iron fusible to wrong side of wool. Cut out on the lines. Stitches are shown in blue on placement pattern. Trace the letters and detail onto Sulky Tear Easy Stabilizer. Center on the background and pin in place. Use placement pattern to fuse appliques onto background. Stitch red wool appliqué using blanket stitch and Burgundy Valdani. Stitch the letters with Valdani 12 wt. pearl cotton Black Ecru using a running stitch. The star above the “I” is burgundy thread matching the thread used on the “C”. Make tight stitches to perforate stabilizer for easy removal. Use a fern stitch with green thread to stich the pine needles on the “C”. Use lazy daisy stich with Light Ecru Valdani to make the flower. Sew one green bead in the center of the flower as shown in red on placement pattern. Use a pinking rotary blade to trim background to 3” x 9”. Proudly display until next month! Enjoy!
