GAME NOTES OPENING TIP
Gettysburg hosts Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams tonight inside Bream Gym. ALL-TIME SERIES The Blue Jays lead the series against the Bullets 38-28. Gettysburg swept the regular-season series for the first time in seven seasons with a pair of wins in 2014-15. LAST MEETING Jessica Porter ’16 scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as Gettysburg beat Johns Hopkins 53-46 inside Goldfarb Gym last season. The Blue Jays led by double-figures in the first half before the Bullets closed with a 13-2 run to take a 23-22 lead at the break. Gettysburg led by as many as 11 in the second half, but the hosts trimmed the margin to three (49-46) with 1:29 remaining. Johns Hopkins missed five shots in the final minute and was held to just 28.1 percent shooting from the floor for the game. Jenna Swope ’15 turned in 13 points and six rebounds for the visitors. Beatriz Williams paced the Blue Jays with 11 points. LAST TIME OUT Gettysburg took home the title at the Frostburg State Tip-off Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Bullets defeated No. 20 Oneonta State 50-47 as senior Jessica Porter hit the game-winning three-pointer with three seconds left. Porter added 29 points and 13 rebounds in an 83-53 win over the hosts in the championship game. Porter was tagged MVP of the event for the secondstraight year, while senior Emily Duggan was named All-Tournament after posting 15 points and 11 rebounds in the final.
HOT START Gettysburg knocked off a nationally-ranked team in its season opener for the second time in three seasons. In 2013-14, the Bullets took down No. 18 William Paterson 51-47 in the first game of the Frostburg State Tournament. NEW RULES There have been a number of new rule changes to the women’s game this season. For starters, each game will be divided up into four 10-minute quarters. When a team reaches five team fouls in a given quarter, the opposing team will shoot two free throws, wiping out the old “one-and-one” rule from prior years. Also, if a timeout is called by the offenisve team during the last 59.9 seconds of play of the fourth period and the ball is in the backcourt, the offensive team will have the option of putting the ball into play at the hash mark in the frontcourt near the scorer’s table. CC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior forward Jessica Porter was named CC Player of the Week for the third time in her career on Monday. Porter averaged 18.5 points and 10 rebounds on the way to MVP honors at the Frostburg State Tip-off Tournament. SCOUTING JOHNS HOPKINS... Johns Hopkins went 1-1 in its own seasonopening tournament. The Blue Jays beat PittBradford 75-56 before falling to Trinity (Texas) 67-33. Junior Janay Smith put up 16 points and 12 rebounds against Pitt-Bradford and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Johns Hopkins finished 16-9 overall and 13-5 in the conference last season. The Blue Jays lost to Muhlenberg in the conference semifinals. Johns Hopkins was picked second in the Centennial preseason poll.
