Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections

STUDENTS PAGE July 27-30, 2011 Your Inner Circle—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it’s your turn, share one thing that you would like most about your parent if you were his or her best friend. Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:

2. Read Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:14-16

Truth • Your best friends should move you closer to God. Untruths • God doesn’t care about how your best friends behave. • Best friends really don’t influence your thoughts about God, family, and church. • I can have a little fun with my friends now and worry about “God stuff” later.

3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.

4. Think It Through: A parent will explain how you should lead this activity. 5. Nail It Down: Affirm that each family member gets to choose his or her friends and the length of those friendships. Say: Each decision we make about friends has an impact on our entire family. Invite family members to repeat that statement together. 6. Pray: A parent will lead today’s prayer time. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: List the names of your closest friends. Take the list to your parents and point out the friends who will move you closer to God and the ones who could move you away from God. Ask your parents to pray with you about the friends who might move you away from God. Promise that you will spend more time with friends who will move you closer to God and your family.
