Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE October 30—November 1, 2011 Confronting the Spirit World—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it’s your turn, say: Thanks for sharing these memories. I will always try to help you understand how your actions affect my world. This discussion brings me closer to you because . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18
Truth • God encourages us to stand against any form of evil—seen or unseen. Untruths • Evil and evil spirits don’t really exist. That’s just a superstitious belief. • If I leave the spirit world alone, I’m pretty sure it will leave me alone. • We can’t win a battle against evil or the spirit world.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: Today’s verses talk about a battle against evil. I want you to say, “Useless” or “Useful” after each phrase I read. A.) A soldier with a rifle that has no ammunition? B.) A soldier who has earned an “expert” badge on the firing range? C.) A soldier who runs away from combat? D.) A soldier who runs toward the battle ready to attack the enemy? E.) A soldier who doesn’t know how to use any of his weapons? F.) A believer who doesn’t use spiritual weapons against spiritual enemies? Encourage family members to be useful members of God’s army. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Direct family members to place one hand on their hearts and one hand on their heads. Say: Father, give us courage to use the spiritual weapons you’ve given us to protect our hearts and minds. Close with your own prayer. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: What is your favorite part of the fall season? Share your feelings with your parents and ask them to share their thoughts with you. Copyright 2011 LifeWay Press. All rights reserved.
