There is no difference in age between the two sides and there is little to choose between the two forward units in the scrum. France have a two cm per man height advantage in the line out.
The tall guys
•
Australia second row forward GREG PETERSON is the tallest man on the pitch at 204 cm (6ft 8 ins) and is just two cm above France lock WILLIAM DEMOTTE.
The heavyweight division
• •
The combined weight of the Australia pack is 883 kg, which is the heaviest of the 12 selected packs for the final six matches in the tournament and gives them a ten kg advantage over France in the scrum. Australia’s heaviest players are loosehead prop PAUK ALO-EMILE and lock GREG PETERSON, who both weigh 123 kg (19st 5lb) whilst France number eight GILLIAN GALAN is their heaviest player and tips the scales at 121 kg (19st 1lb).
History
•
This will be the third time that Australia and France have met in the IRB Junior World Championships, with both sides having won once. Australia won 42-21 in the play off for fifth place in 2008 in a match that saw nine tries scored, whilst there were seven tries in last week’s 31-25 win for France.
Experience
• • •
Australia have the most experienced squad in the tournament, with ten players taking part in their second IRB Junior World Championships. Seven of them are in the starting line up against France, including CHRIS KURIDRANI, who played for Fiji in the 2010 Championship and scored a try on his first appearance for Australia against New Zealand on Wednesday. JEAN-MARC DOUSSAIN is the only member of the France squad remaining from the 2010 IRB Junior World Championship. He kicked 25 points in last year’s tournament but only starts on the replacements bench on Sunday. France finished second to England in the Under 20s Six Nations Championships earlier this year, winning four of their five matches played. JEAN PASCAL BARRAQUE is the only one of their starting line up who started in all five matches in that tournament.
Try scorers
• •
Australia have 10 players in their starting line up who have scored tries in the IRB Junior World Championships, with four more on the replacements bench. Only lock forward BLAKE ENEVER and flanker MICHAEL HOOPER, who scored in the defeat to France, have crossed the line more than once. No player in the France squad has scored more than one try in the IRB Junior World Championships. JEAN PASCAL BARRAQUE and GEOFFREY PALIS both scored in the win over Australia last week, the former scoring 16 points in total that day.
The man in the middle
•
LEIGHTON HODGES of Wales takes charge of this match, his fourth in IRB Junior World Championship competition but his first involving these two sides. He refereed New Zealand’s 64-7 win over Italy, England’s 39-18 win over Scotland and Argentina’s 12-8 win over Italy.
