LAST MEETING: On April 19, 2009 in Glassboro, NJ, the schools split a doubleheader. Rowan won the opener, 12-9; NJCU won the nightcap, 9-8. Rowan led 12-0 in game one before NJCU, behind 3-for-5 efforts by Michael Fiorentino and Rob Gonzalez nearly rallied. Ryan Peterson won for the Profs. Alex Mena was 2-for-4 with a homer in game two. TOUGH SKED: With today’s doubleheader against Rowan, NJCU has now played seven games against teams in the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings. In the Mid-Atlantic Region, the Knights have now faced #2 Alvernia, #3 Kean (twice) and #5 Rowan (twice). In the New York Region, NJCU has faced #4 Rochester and #6 Staten Island—and crushed the Dolphins, 15-2. NJCU is 8-6 at home. SENIOR DAY 2010: Between games of today’s doubleheader, NJCU will honor four-year seniors Alex Mena, a former First-Team AllNJAC standout, and Eddie Gonzalo. WITTE RUNNING INTO HISTORY: Ken Witte enters the final doubleheader of the year with 42 runs in 35 games. That’s fifth most in school history and four shy of Rob Sumner’s 2005 program record of 46. Rob Gonzalez had 45 runs last year. Witte and Gonzalez both enter the day with 57 hits and will attempt only the third and fourth 60-hit seasons in school history. Current assistant coach Charlie Auletto had 71 hits in 1994; Gonzalez tallied 62 last year. RUNNING WILD: The top four base stealers in the NJAC will be on hand today. Rob Gonzalez and Rowan’s Matt Citro are tied for the league lead with 21 swipes. Scott Weaver is third with 18 and Ken Witte has 15.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION ONE TO CLINCH: Rowan enters the doubleheader with a 12-4 NJAC record and 24 points in the standings, and owns a one-game lead on #17 ranked Kean University, which hosts William Paterson today. Rowan, which swept Kean during the regular season, needs just one win today over NJCU or one Kean loss to clinch the league’s regular-season title. Rowan was picked fourth in the league’s preseason poll. IN THE POLLS: Rowan is currently ranked No. 5 in the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings. The Profs have also received votes in the D3baseball/NCBWA and American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball national polls. NJACs: Rowan, which has won 13 NJAC championships since 1958—most recently in 2004 and 2005—is second only to Montclair’s 16 title in league history. If Rowan is the #1 seed it will host the #6 seed in the NJAC Tournament opening round on May 4. Richard Stockton is currently in sixth place prior to today’s action. ***THE NCAA, ECAC, NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE AND NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY PROMOTE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BY STUDENT-ATHLETES, COACHES, STAFF AND SPECTATORS.
