Thank You! Dear Church Family, We appreciate you! When suddenly our healthy life-style changed, it was such a blessing to have church members who cared. Please continue to remember us in your prayers as our lives are truly in God’s hand. Sincerely, Bill & Joyce

2. Two of the air conditioning units in the Church House had to be replaced. The Trustees voted to replace two units with one unit for efficiency. In addition, the FLC had two air conditioning units that had to be repaired. 3. We will wait until Fall to repaint the lines in the parking lots. 4. The rules for scheduling the ballfield are located beside the calendar used to sign up to use the ballfield. When the League Teams (church teams) begin their playing season, (which will be marked on the calendar), they have priority over the use of the field. 5. A Facility Checklist for leaving the FLC and the Kitchen in proper order has been posted in both areas. This Facility Checklist can be found in our Policies and Guidelines of Church Buildings and Facilities. Please let a Trustee member know if you know of other items that should be included on this Checklist. 6. Both church vans have been ‘spring cleaned’. The interior was cleaned and the outside was washed and waxed. 7. The Trustee Committee will not have a scheduled meeting in July and August. Should anything come up which needs Trustee attention, please contact a member.

United Methodist Women Thanks to all the ladies of the church for the delicious food you prepared for our last funeral. Thanks also for helping to serve and clean up. We always have an abundance of delicious food. I also want to thank Lea Anne for helping me in the kitchen to get ready for an event and making tea for us. Many thanks to a wonderful group of ladies.  Summertime !!!!  Warm sun….okay it’s hot!! Cool breeze….okay, it’s hot too!! Cool nights…..wrong again!!! The one thing I know for sure is that it IS summertime, and that is not always good for church finances. Attendance and giving are typically down in the summer months. Please remember, whether you are at church or not, church continues….the worship, the ministry, the fellowship….God never takes a vacation (thank goodness!!!!).  This summer, let’s break the trend!!! Let’s have better attendance, perhaps even bring a friend or two, and let’s have an increase in giving. Both will be blessings to God, and He will smile!!! Let’s make that our summertime goal for 2016!! Blessings,

Lori

Wonderful Wednesdays is a summer program put together by the United Methodist Churches in the area called “United Methodist Friends”. Their goal is to spread God’s Love through community fellowship and activities. For more information, additional pick-up sites, or to volunteer please call Hill’s Chapel UMC at 704-827-9511.

Pastor’s Pen 7. It’s a wonderful number. For many, it is their favorite number. It has long been held as a lucky number, and Lucky 7 is an expression not hard to find. In the Bible, 7 is considered God’s perfect number. When it is used, it represents completeness or perfection. At Jericho, Joshua’s army was led by 7 priests and marched around the city 7 times on the 7th day. And the siege was complete. Our Conference has a health service to try to keep us ministers in better shape. (FYI, clergy as a profession used to be near the top of all the professions in terms of health. We are now second to last…) We were given a “tracker,” what we used to call a pedometer, and given a daily goal of 7,000 steps. That may seem like a lot of steps, but one trip around our walking track is about 500. So if I were to do 14 laps every morning, I would make my goal for the day. Our step count gets us points, and if we get enough points every three months we are rewarded with…cash! And if we make our quarterly goal for each quarter of the year, we get a bonus on top of that – more cash! OK, it isn’t a lot, around $200 altogether, but it is an incentive. And we can either trade in that health cash for exercise equipment or clothes, or we can take the cash itself. Or do what I do and let it build up so that in a few years it will pay for a treadmill or vacation or… The thing is…it’s very easy not to make goal in a day. My profession involves a lot of sitting. If I’m in the office, I’m sitting. If I’m visiting you, I’m sitting. If I’m at a meeting, I’m sitting. If I’m going somewhere, I’m sitting (in the car). If I’m working on my sermon or a report, I’m sitting. If I’m doing homework for my classes, I’m sitting. About the only time I’m usually standing is in worship – and then you are sitting! Here’s the thing – John Wesley was very much aware that inherent in our faith is care of the person, and that means the physical as well as the spiritual health of each of us. He not only preached and wrote about people’s souls, he also handed out medicines to the poor and wrote about home health remedies. We now live in a society where exercise and healthy eating are far from the norm. So I need your help in two things. The first is to keep me on track to make my daily goal. I have a personal goal of making the 7,000 step goal every day this year. And here we are halfway through, and so far so good! It’s been close a few times, but we’re still in the running! Just check with me every now and then. (And now you know one reason I walk those circles on Sunday morning while praying through the sermon – gotta get those steps in!) The second is – why not join me? Maybe set your own exercise goal, be it a morning walk or yoga or jog. Maybe we could form a hiking group to go out every month and enjoy nature. But as part of our going on to perfection, let’s buck the national trend and bring faith into our physical as well as our spiritual health. Our lives are gifts from God – let’s give a gift back in how we take care of them.
