SOUTH EAST JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

UNDER 16’s

Valley Rovers 2.17 V’s Shamrocks 1.16

Valley Rovers 2.12 V’s Skibbereen 1.13

On Sunday evening last Valley Rovers took on Shamrocks in the first round of the Junior Hurling Championship. There was very little between the teams on the night but Valleys seemed to be that bit stronger. The first half was very even up until the 26th minute at which the score was Valley’s 0.06 to Shamrocks 0.06 when goals from first Adam Settini and the Gary Deane put Valley’s in the driving seat 2.06 to 0.06. One more point from valleys and two more from Shamrocks before the break left the score at half time Valley’s 2.07 to 0.08. The second half was similar to the first with Valleys shading the exchanges and on 57 minutes Valleys lead 2.15 to Shamrocks 0.15. However a goal from Shamrocks from a free left only a puck of the ball between the sides. However Valleys responded with two quick points from Dan Sweetnam and Richie Butler, Shamrock did get a last point in reply to leave the final score Valley Rovers 2.17 to Shamrocks 1.16.

Valleys U16 girls continued their impressive West Cork A league campaign with further victories over Skibbereen and Courcey Rovers in recent weeks. Valleys took on Skibbereen in a blustery Brinny on Thursday June 29th and faced the elements in the first half. 20 mins in, this looked like a shrewd tactic as Valleys fought very well. However the 10 mins before half time very nearly proved fatal as Skibb tacted on numerous points before half time to lead on a scoreline of 1:11 to 0:4. While heads may have been down at halftime due to this 10 point deficit, this team is never defeated and showed their fighting spirit in the second half as they started the scoreboard ticking over with some well taken points before super sub Caoimhe McCarthy banged in 2 goals to bring Valleys within 1 point. Skibb still looked as if they might hold on but a few more well taken points got Valleys over the line. Valley Rovers 2:12 V Skibbereen 1:13

LADIES FOOTBALL

Valley Rovers 2.14 V’s Coursey Rovers 0.06 Valleys made the short journey to Ballinaspittle to take on Courcey Rovers on Thursday July 6th. While again a number of girls were away, the strength of the panel was tested and they came through with flying colours. Valleys raced into a 4 point lead (3 by Ellen Fennelly) before Courceys came back with a few scores of their own to tighten the margin, however a Chloe Burton goal before half time gave Valleys some breathing space. Powered by Cork players Jane Mulvihill and Page 2 of 5
