[email protected] Fall Carnival Volunteers – If you are interested in volunteering for the carnival, on-line sign ups can be completed at the following: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0d4fa8ab23a5f94-fall America Recycle Day – Wednesday, November 15th is the day to remind America to go green and remember to recycle. In an effort to do our part, Yorktown Elementary School is asking you and/or your student to bring in any plastic bags you may have around the home that are not being used on November 15th. They will be collected and sent to be recycled. YES thanks you in advance for your support as we continue to go green. Ball State University (BSU) Presents Ocean Mysteries – Jeff Corwin is the host of Ocean Mysteries, and he is a renowned conservationist and environmental journalist! Attendees will be able to see some of his live animals and hear him speak about his experiences. Admission is free! There will be free giveaways for the first 1,000 ticketed guests! Free tickets are required and can be gathered from the Box Office at Emens Auditorium. Attached below are further details.
Previously Noted/Important Information: Kids Night Out (KNO) – The next KNO-bingo is Friday, November 10th from 2:30-4pm. Spell Bowl – Student team members will be competing in the regional spell bowl on Thursday, November 16th from 5-7:00pm at Pendleton Elementary School. Tiger PAWS (PTO) Sponsored Pacers/Lucas Oil Family Night – Family and friends are invited to the Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks basketball game on Friday February 23rd, 2018. Yorktown Club Volleyball – Anyone with a daughter (age 7 by January 1st through 8th grade) who is interested in playing volleyball, please visit: https://yorktown.instructure.com/courses/4655 Tiger PAWS PTO My Girl Gala Planning Committee – The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 20th from 4:00 to 5:00pm in the YES library. Box Tops – The next collection date is Thursday, November 30th.
2-Hour Delay Child Care – Child care is available on days when there is a 2-hour delay at YES for students in kindergarten to sixth grade. No prior sign-up is required. Qualified school personnel will supervise the children. Parents sign their child in and pay $4 in cash upon arrival for each student using the child care. Breakfast is available for $1.50 or students may bring their own breakfast with them. For additional information, visit the YCS website (http://www.yorktown.k12.in.us/). Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file. End of the Day Arrangements – We realize plans sometime change during the day; however, please try to have your child’s end of the day plan in place prior to the start of the school day. If you have a change of plans, do not email the teacher. Teachers do not always have time to check their email and put the plan into place. Please call the office by 1:50pm at 759-2770 with end of the day changes only when necessary. Dismissal Time/Latchkey – YES dismisses at 2:20pm. If you are going to be later than 2:20pm in picking up your child, you will need to send your child to latchkey. YES students ride a bus to PVE, where latchkey is held. Parents pick up their child from PVE. The cost is $3 per child per day if picked up by 4:00pm; $6 per child per day if picked up after 4:00. All children must be picked up from latchkey by 6:00pm.
