OPENING TIP The Bullets continue their six-day, three-game stretch this evening as they host the McDaniel College Green Terror in a Centennial Conference match-up. ALL-TIME SERIES Gettysburg holds an 82-35 lead over McDaniel in the all-time series that dates back to 1917-18. The Bullets have captured three of the last four meetings. LAST SEASON VS. MCDANIEL The Bullets and Green Terror met three times last season, with Gettysburg winning each of the last two contests. In the first meeting, McDaniel captured a 59-50 decision in Westminster, as Wes Brooks led the way with 14 points on 4-of-6 3-point shooting. Tanner Kirkpatrick paced Gettysburg with 15 points. In the second meeting, the Bullets earned a 60-52 victory here in Bream Gym in their regular-season finale to secure the No. 4 seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and the right to host the CC first-round playoff game. Kevin Gladstone scored 17 points for Gettysburg while Tim Stewart led McDaniel with 11 points. Then in the Centennial Conference first-round game, Gladstone scored 17 points again to lead the Bullets to a 53-45 victory. Andrew Merlo scored 14 points for the Green Terror. LAST TIME OUT Gettysburg saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 76-69 loss to Swarthmore College here in Bream Gym this past Monday. After missing his last three games with an injury, senior center Kevin Gladstone returned to score a team-high 14 points in 17 minutes off the bench for the Bullets. Junior forward Cody Kiefer posted his fifth double-double of the season on 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists while junior center Tanner Kirkpatrick also scored 13 points. Sophomore guard Matt England added 12 points for Gettysburg, which also had its 10game home winning streak snapped. The Bullets had not lost in Bream since Feb. 4 of last season.
RECEIVING VOTES The Bullets were tied for fourth among unranked teams “receiving votes” in the latest D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, which includes games through Jan. 24. Wesleyan was ranked No. 25 with 48 points while Mount Union (39), Trinity (Conn.) (30), Penn State-Behrend (29), Gettysburg (27), Salisbury (27), and Tufts (27) fell just outside the top-25. AMONG THE CONFERENCE LEADERS Several Bullets are currently ranked among the top-10 in the Centennial Conference in a statistical category. Junior forward Cody Kiefer and senior center Kevin Gladstone and are second and third in assists per game with 3.8 and 3.7, respectively, while sophomore guard Matt England is second in free-throw percentage (87.3%). In addition, Gladstone is third in field-goal percentage (58.5%) while junior guard Pete Christ (42.2%) and sophomore guard Alex Kaslander (41.7%) are sixth and seventh, respectively, in 3-point field-goal percentage. As a team, Gettysburg leads the conference in 3-pointers made per game (8.4) and fewest turnovers per game (13.1) while ranking second in field-goal percentage (46.5%), free-throw percentage (71.0%), and rebounding margin (+6.1). The Bullets are also third in scoring (71.1 ppg), scoring defense (62.8 ppg), and 3-point field goal percentage (36.4%). SCOUTING MCDANIEL McDaniel is coming off a 68-48 loss at 13th-ranked Franklin & Marshall this past Monday. Senior forward Tim Stewart led the Green Terror with 12 points. Senior guard Wes Brooks (15.1 ppg) and Stewart (14.9 ppg) have given McDaniel a strong scoring tandem while junior forward Kevin Yrizarry has averaged a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game. The Green Terror have established themselves as a tough defensive squad, ranking second in the Centennial Conference in scoring defense (61.9 ppg).
