match notes
Opening Kick Gettysburg looks to reach double-figure wins for the first time since it won 14 matches in 2006. Standing in the way is a McDaniel squad vying for its first win in three weeks. The Series The series between these clubs heavily favors tonight’s hosts. Gettysburg is 20-2 all-time against McDaniel and has won four-straight since a 1-0 loss in 2005. The Bullets have out-scored the Green Terror 10-1 during its current streak.
Last Meeting The Gettysburg defense held McDaniel to just a pair of shot attempts and Tara Gaston ’10 and Casey Attanasio each scored in a 2-0 victory last fall. Gaston scored off a pass from Sam Hellerman in the 40th minute, while Attanasio converted a dish from Kerry McKenna ’10 in the 58th minute. Allie Rivera stopped the only attempt she saw on goal to record the shutout. Last Time Out The Orange and Blue did all of its scoring in the first half and hand-cuffed host Washington’s offense en route to a 3-0 win last Saturday. The Bullets poured in three goals to open the game as Suzy Englot, Casey Attanasio, and Sara Montague scored in the 15th, 28th, and 41st minutes, respectively. That was plenty of offense for the Bullets defense, which limited the Shorewomen to one first-half shot and only five attempts in the match. Allie Rivera made one save in the victory. Hot Start Gettysburg opened its 2010 campaign by hitting the back of the net eight times against Susque-
Team Dickinson Swarthmore Johns Hopkins Haverford Gettysburg Muhlenberg Ursinus Frank. & Marsh. McDaniel Washington Bryn Mawr
hanna. It was the first time the Bullets scored that many times in a match since an 8-0 blanking of Bryn Mawr on Sept. 30, 2005. Since becoming a varsity program, Gettysburg has scored at least that many goals 14 times, including a school-record 11 on three occasions. Offensive Output Gettysburg is well on its way to its highest point total since netting 166 points in 2004 with 30 goals, 27 assists, and 87 points this fall.. Of the 23 field players on the roster, 14 have scored a goal. Senior Send-off Tonight, Gettysburg will take a moment to recognize the contributions of its two seniors, Jordann Smak and Sarah Yeager. Smak has been a four-year contributor in the midfield and attack, appearing in all but four matches and scoring four goals and three assists. An outstanding student majoring in biology, Jordann was tabbed ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team last fall. Yeager hasn’t missed a start since bouncing back from a knee injury to start her freshman season, appearing in each of Gettysburg’s last 59 contests. A two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, she has led Gettysburg’s stingy defensive unit, which has allowed less than a goal per match and posted 30 shutouts over the last four campaigns. Scouting McDaniel... McDaniel is in search of its first win since a 2-0 decision at Bryn Mawr on Sept. 25. The Green Terror is 0-5-1 over its last six contests with only two goals scored and 12 shots taken. Ursinus scored in the third minute to kick off a 5-0 win over McDaniel last Saturday. The Bears owned a 16-6 shot advantage and took the only two corner kicks in the match.
