Grand Junction Fire FC Recreation Practice Planner U10 Week 2 March 26-30 Theme: Dribbling Towards Goal Aim: To improve a players decision making when dribbling towards goal, using a variety of ways to beat defenders, and striking on goal while moving forwards
Warm up: Area 25x25yds. All players have a ball. 8-12 tall cones placed at random around the area. Players dribble around the area and perform a variety of moves, fakes or just changes of direction at the cones, using both feet and all surfaces of the foot. Progress by: specify which move/fake you want players to perform, specify a specific foot you would like them to use, give them ball mastery techniques to use between cones, moving/removing cones to increase spacial awareness, add one or more semi passive defenders to replace the cones no tackling just making sure attackers use moves properly. Coaching points: close control throughout the square, awareness of available cones (make sure there is no queueing at a cone), use of all 4 surfaces of the foot (inside, outside (last 3 toes), laces and sole), use a variety of different moves, not the same ones at every cone.
Technical work: 2 lines 1 small goal, 1 line with passers, the second with attackers, this line is about 15yds from goal, all balls with passing line. Passer plays a ball to the attacker, who receives then dribbles towards goal before shooting. They then get the ball and join the passing line, passer joins attackers line. Progress by: limiting dribbling touches, make attackers shoot from a certain distance away, change sides passes come from to encourage using both feet, have the passer put pressure on the attacker after playing the pass. Coaching points: all above dribbling and moves points, good first touch out of feet to allow acceleration towards goal, bigger touches in space, good shooting technique, power or precision?
Game scenario: area 50x40. Split into thirds, middle third being slightly larger. Majority of players in the middle section, only one defender in the end sections. Players move the ball around in the middle looking for space to then dribble in to the end section, they have to be in the end to shoot on goal. Progress by: adding goalkeepers, having numbers up scenario for one team, min/max number of passes before attempting to dribble in to the end, allow support players to enter the end to enable a cross if runner is wide Coaching points: all above points, shoot earlier before being challenged, or try to get closer but risk defender closing you down.
Small sided game: area 50x40. Now remove cones and zones and allow free play, but still look to encourage dribbling, especially in advanced areas towards the goal. Progress by: feel free to add additional goals to score if a goal is scored straight from a dribble Coaching points: all above points, awareness of where space is, can players cut towards goal if they’re initially dribbling wider
