Grand Junction Fire FC Recreation Session Planner U10 Week 4 April 9-13 Theme: Crossing and Finishing Aim: To learn the correct technique for playing longer passes and crosses. To improve a players ability to put crosses in from wide positions, and also how to finish from a cross

Warm up: split groups into pairs, one ball between two. Players stand between a gate approx 6yds wide, with a tall cone in the middle of the gate. Gates are approx 15-20yds apart. Player with ball takes a touch forwards and strikes towards teammate, aiming to get the ball through the gate. Partner receives ball and then repeated what partner did. Make sure players are using both feet to strike the ball across. Progress by: increase/decrease distance between gates, increase/decrease width of gates Coaching points: strike ball with instep or laces, strike ball before the ball stops after touch forwards, aim to keep ball as low as possible by keeping head and body over ball, attack down the wing pace, forward curves their run meets ball at near post Technical work: use half field if possible, split group into 3 lines one on each wing and one in the middle, all balls start in the middle. Player in the middle passes ball out to one wing, that player receives and dribbles forward before cutting around a tall cone 10yds from the goal line. They will play a cross into the box where the player that played them the pass will finish. Crosser joins middle line and attacker gets the ball and puts it back in the middle before joining the crossers line. Next player goes to the opposite side. Progress by: having a defender compete with the striker, put a time limit on the attackers to get the ball in the box (this will force them to play with pace down the wing), add a second attacker running to the back post Coaching points: all above points: vary the run the forward makes, crosser needs to pick out an area to play, get ahead of defender to meet the ball first, meet ball don’t wait for it Game scenario: half field if possible. Keep the channels on the outside with one player in each, who plays for the attacking side. Attacking side are numbers up. Players in the channels can come out of them, but defending players cant go in them. Another attacker can enter but only if overlapping that player. 3 breakout goals on half way for the defending team. Rotate channel players and teams regularly. Progress by: specify a goal must be scored from a cross to encourage using those players, allowing a defender to pressure the channel player if they have the ball Coaching points: all above points, numerous runners now flood the box ready for a cross.

Small sided game: half field still, now play even numbered teams. Both teams can use the channel players, if second big goal is available use one, if not, put pugs or cone goals in the middle of the field. Progress by: ending with free play Coaching points: all above points, aim to get the ball to the channel players early
