Grand Junction Fire FC Recreation Session Planner U10 Week 6 April 23-27 Theme: Dribbling to Penetrate Aim: To improve a players understanding of how to use dribbling to penetrate the defence and get in behind them
Warm up: 4 small areas around 15x10yds each with a cone line 5 yards in from the end. Attacker dribbles forward and attempts to make it in to the end zone. Defender aims to force them out of play or win ball. Defender then joins attackers and attacker becomes the defender. Progress by: having a time limit for attacker to reach end zone, make them do a move to beat defender, don’t allow any moves just changes of direction and pace, use of specific surfaces of foot only.
Game scenario: 2v1 with 4 goals. On a small field, place 4 goals, 2 for each team to attack, and split group into 2 teams. Two players enter field, one with a ball, a defender from the other side joins. The attacker must accelerate towards the nearest goal, and the defender must close the attacker down. Attacker has option to keep going towards goal in front, change direction to the other goal, or to pass to teammate. If defender wins ball, they can dribble ball across the far line. Progress by: making this 2v2, introduce a time limit in which the attacker can score, keep count of which team scores a goal to have competition, rotate teams so everyone plays each other. Coaching points: all above points, eyes up to see how the defender is approaching them, change of pace if defender pressures well, early decision on keeping the ball or passing to teammate. Game scenario: area 40x30. Place 3 goals on each ‘long’ side of the field. Coach has plenty of balls at one side of field. Even teams, players have 3 goals they can score in. When they see space in front of them, attack it and it should lead to one of those 3 goals. Progress by: removing goals, adding a goalkeeper to one or more of the goals, additional points scored for a goal directly from a dribble. Coaching points: above points, eyes up and attack any space in front, good first touch out of feet to enable acceleration, aim to only dribble forwards, not sideways or backwards
Small sided game: normal game, but reward dribbles that lead to goals. If need by, incorporate channels out wide that players can dribble without being challenged Progress by: finishing with free play Coaching points: when to dribble and when to pass, if there is space then take it at pace
