Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE April 27-30, 2011 Hope for Future Generations—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it’s your turn, say: Thanks for sharing your Easter memory with me. One thing I’ll remember about this Easter will be . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Psalm 102:25-28
Truth • Everything else will pass away, but God will continue, unchanged, forever. Untruths • Hope for the future comes from having the money to buy whatever you want. • Our hope for the future lies in scientists and politicians who can solve our problems. • There really is no hope for future generations.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: Knowing that all things will perish doesn’t seem to be a big deal to most teenagers. Before something is broken or worn out, it’s usually replaced by something more up-todate anyway—whether it’s clothes or electronics or whatever. If it isn’t new, it’s out of date. Note that a lot of people also think being a Christian is out of date, but believers can rest in the fact that God never changes or goes out of date. Say: We will never need to replace Him. He’ll be the same to our children and our grandchildren. Ask: If there were other things you wish would always remain the same— whether objects or emotions or circumstances—what would they be? 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Lead your family in prayer. Consider including this thought in your prayer: Thank You, God, for giving hope to me and to all generations because You will remain the same forever. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Sometimes your parents just get tired. But you can encourage them by letting them know that you appreciate having a home. Take a moment this week and tell your parents that you appreciate all they do to provide a home for you and the family.
