Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections

STUDENTS PAGE August 7-9, 2011 A Servant Heart Toward the Lost—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a teenager goes first): Say: I want us to have fun as we get to know each other better. My vote for the funniest movie scene of all time is . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:

2. Read Scripture: 1 Peter 4:9-10

Truth • Serving the lost can lead them to a relationship with Jesus Christ. Untruths • Lost people are evil and should be avoided. • My attitude doesn’t matter as long as I do nice things for others. • Using my gifts and abilities should make my life happier and wealthier.

3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.

4. Think It Through: Take the lead role in two brief skits. Ask a family member to pretend he or she is a new student sitting in your school class. The new student might be spiritually lost. Skit One: You walk into the classroom and stand over the new student. You tell the new student he or she is guilty of many sins and will burn for all of eternity. Then you ask the student if he or she wants to stand up with you to say the sinner’s prayer. (End of scene.) Skit Two: You walk into the classroom and sit quietly beside the new student. You explain things about the school that could be confusing to someone new and promise to walk the student to lunch so he or she does not have to eat alone. You then tell the new student about a praise band that will be at your church on Wednesday and ask if he or she would like to go along. (End of scene.) Ask your family: Which of these two approaches might be more effective for talking to someone about faith or introducing someone to Christ? 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Pray that your family will be sensitive to those who are lost and in need of love. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Let your mom know you want to bless her with an act of service. Ask: If I could do one thing that would really help you today, what would it be? Listen and then go do what she asks.
