2-2 overall 0-0 PSAC-E Won 2

Kutztown women’s basketball begins PSAC play with a home battle against East Stroudsburg University. After Wednesday’s win against the University of the Sciences, the Golden Bears carry a winning streak into this matchup. Advia Campbell stepped up huge in the victory with 15 points and 9 rebounds, including the game-tying bucket on a put back with 12 seconds left. For ESU, the Warriors look for a 2-0 start in conference play after beating Mansfield at home. Last year, Kutztown won both meetings. They won 69-57 at home and 76-65 on the road.

1-1 overall 1-0 PSAC-E Won 1

MRS. RELIABLE: Junior guard Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) started in a team-high 56 of her 60 games played over the last two-plus years. She holds a current streak of starting in 56 games in a row. This year, she ranks second on the team in both categories with 12.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. NEW ROLE: Bonenberger is coming off a career-best season in which she averaged double figures in scoring and led the team (and ranked fifth in the PSAC) with 8.4 rebounds per game. As opposed to her post position from last year, expect to see the redshirt junior out on the wing to give the team greater scoring opportunities. She is one of the top shooters on the team who can also defend extremely well while playing either at guard or forward. OPENING-NIGHT SUCCESS: Freshman forward Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) made the most of her Golden Bears debut. She scored 19 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the season-opening loss to West Liberty. Watson's 19 points marked the highest scoring total for a freshman in a season-opener since Tricia McElmoyle dropped 26 points in the 2005-06 opener against Columbia Union. Watson averages 8.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. MORE TO COME: Sophomore guard Natalya Lee (Feasterville, PA/Rancocas Valley) scored a career-high 22 points in the season-opener against West Liberty. Her career-high was built on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and a 5-of-6 performance from the free throw line. Her previous highs were a pair of 20-point outings last season, including Kutztown's 83-72 playoff victory against West Chester in the PSAC Tournament First Round. HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER: Junior forward Nicole Donahue (Wall, NJ/St. Rose) missed the final 20 games of last season due to a knee injury. It didn’t take her long to get into the swing of play. She led the way for the Golden Bear offense in the loss at Glenville State, scoring 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed 11 rebounds. In last week’s win at PhilaU, she netted another double-double, putting 12 points and 13 rebounds on the stat sheet. ALL-TIME GREAT: Janet Malouf is in her 20th season as the Kutztown women’s basketball head coach. She is the all-time winningest coach in school history and holds a 292-233 (.555) overall record. She led the Golden Bears to the postseason for the fourth time in five years last season. PRESEASON ACCOLADES: Natalya Lee was named to the preseason All-PSAC East team at guard as Kutztown received two first place votes for the PSAC Eastern Division Preseason Poll. Overall, the Golden Bears are picked to finish fifth in the division.

Looking in the Other Corner: the East Stroudsburg Warriors

THEIR FAVORITE MARTIN: Junior forward Jessica Martin will be an offensive focal points for the Warriors. She averages 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, shooting 55 percent from the field along the way. Martin earned All-PSAC East Second Team honors each of her first two years at ESU. She also earned honors as PSAC East Freshman of the Year in 2011-12. ALL IN AT THE BOARDS: Freshman forward Allison Howard has immediately brought added inside presence to team up with Martin. Howard leads the team with 12.5 rebounds per game. Between the two, they average 23 of the team’s 46.5 rebounds per game. The native of Ohio also ranks seconds in points per game, with 9.0 so far. HEY THERE, COACH: Warriors head coach Maureen Smith enters her fourth season at the position for the women’s basketball program. A graduate of Florida International, Smith holds experience at both Division I and Division II at the coaching ranks. So far, she owns a 24-57 record with East Stroudsburg and brought ESU to the PSAC Tournament last year.

Games highlighted in maroon will be broadcasted on the Golden Bear Network at kubears.com (subject to change)
