6-12 overall 3-5 PSAC-E Lost 4
Kutztown women’s basketball looks to end a four-game losing streak as the team travels to East Stroudsburg to face the Warriors in a Saturday afternoon PSAC East game. After a 74-56 loss to Bloomsburg last Saturday, the Golden Bears fell to 1-9 in their last 10 games. Kutztown ranks sixth in the PSAC East. ESU remains in fifth after winning 67-49 at Mansfield on Wednesday. The Warriors shot 26-of-29 from the free throw line in the game. Between KU and ESU, the Golden Bears won the first meeting, 59-58, after a game-winning and-one from Jess Harvey.

10-9 overall 5-4 PSAC-E Won 1
LAST TIME OUT: The Golden Bears lost to Bloomsburg, 74-56, in a home PSAC East game last Saturday. The loss marked the ninth in the last 10 games. The Huskies shot 43.9 percent from the floor in the victory, and they had three players score in double figures. Meanwhile, after shooting well in the first half (12-of-26, 46.2 percent), the Golden Bears shot just 9-of-30 (30 percent) in the second half. Advia Campbell led all KU scorers with 14 points and six rebounds. STEALS APLENTY: The Golden Bears collected nine steals in last Saturday’s loss, but the defense still remains a threat to create havoc. KU had 10+ steals in 12 of 13 games between 11/20 and 1/18. This includes a pair of six-game stretches with 10+ steals, both which mark a program best since 1998 (1/31-2/14). Kutztown also set a school record when the team collected 22 steals at Mansfield on Dec. 4. The Golden Bears rank third in the PSAC with 11.28 steals per game. STATISTICAL ADVIA-TION: The production this year from junior forward Advia Campbell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) soared, especially as of late. Campbell accomplished the program’s first ever triple-double, including a school-record 10 blocks, against West Chester on Dec. 7. She had also collected seven steals, her first of three such games this season. For the season, Campbell averages 10.1 points (team-best), 7.6 rebounds, 3.1 steals (PSAC-best) and 2.2 blocks (second in the PSAC) per game. Campbell is on pace for 81 steals in the regular season. MRS. RELIABLE: Through her three years at KU, junior guard/forward Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) started 70 consecutive games and counting. With that, she’s become one of the main focal points on offense. Her 9.8 points per game ranks second on the team, while her 7.8 rebounds per game leads the team. Her four double-doubles mark a team-high this season. Bonenberger shoots 41.2 percent from the floor. BOARDED UP: If the Golden Bears are looking to improve in one major area, it likely would be the rebounding battle. Kutztown began the season with 144 rebounds in three games, earning a positive rebound margin in each game. Since then, the Golden Bears were outrebounded in 12 of their last 15 games. KU is on average outrebounded 40.07 to 35.47 in that span. For the season, KU owns a 3-3 record with a rebound advantage, but a 3-9 record otherwise (losing the last nine). PSAC PLAYOFF PICTURE: Kutztown finished the first half of its PSAC East schedule with a 3-5 record, ranking the team sixth in the division. The Golden Bears earned victories over East Stroudsburg, Cheyney and Mansfield. While KU begins its second half in this game, the others have already begun. West Chester leads the division at 8-1, while Bloomsburg ranks second at 7-2. Cheyney sits the closest behind KU at 3-6. The top six teams make the conference playoffs.
Looking in the Other Corner: the East Stroudsburg Warriors
THEIR FAVORITE MARTIN: Junior forward Jessica Martin will be the most forceful presence for the Warriors. She averages 12.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. The last of the three ranks her seventh in Division II. Martin is also helping to make the transition much easier for freshman forward Allison Howard, who averages 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. DARN GOOD “D”: The Warriors lead the PSAC in three key defensive stats. ESU’s opponents shoot only 37.5 percent from the floor, including a paltry 25.2 percent clip from three-point range. Furthermore, the team averages 5.3 blocks per game. Overall, this helps the Warriors to allow only 62.5 points per game, which ranks third in the conference. HEY THERE, COACH: Warriors head coach Maureen Smith is in her fourth season at the position for the women’s basketball program. A graduate of Florida International, Smith holds experience at both Division I and Division II at the coaching ranks. So far, she owns a 33-65 record with East Stroudsburg and brought ESU to the PSAC Tournament last year.
Games highlighted in maroon will be broadcasted on the Golden Bear Network at kubears.com (subject to change)
