From Pastor Bob God Never Changes One of the favorite memories of my childhood was fishing off the harbor jetty in Oxnard, California. The big pile of rocks was accessible only by boat and my oldest brother and I would frequently motor out in his small skiff. It was a crazy place to fish. Surf on one side (one didn’t dare lose one’s footing) and calm kelp beds on the other side. And nearly 50 years ago, when we were there, the fish were abundant. There was one hole that I always went to that ALWAYS guaranteed a fish. Never missed. About twenty years later I returned to the jetty with a friend, found the same hole, dropped in my line and caught my fish. The surf and tides have pounded that jetty now for nearly 75 years. Not a single rock has moved. I’m quite certain I could find the same hole today if I were to return. God is like a massive Rock in the shifting tides and storms of time. He never changes. You can’t improve Holy Perfection. If he were to become somehow diminished, he would not be Almighty God. God’s unchangeableness (the attribute is called “immutability”) affects every one of his other attributes. God’s love will never change. Neither will his righteousness, his mercy, or his justice. He will always be the Sovereign Lord. God is eternally faithful because he cannot change. Unlike other promises we’ve heard, his will never fail. You can count on him. The God who loved the world enough to give his only Son will always love you and me, no matter how high the waves or the wind that batters our souls. God, the Rock, will always be there. Pastor Bob
