From Pastor Bob Can God Do Anything? I’ve had many folks remark how helpful the messages on God’s attributes have been. For that, I am very grateful. Magnifying God’s character will always bear positive fruit. This week, we will consider God’s omnipotence. He is all powerful. He is often referred to as “the Almighty God.” Is there anything that God can’t do? What a great question! Most of us would immediately say, “Of course not! God can do anything!” In a sense, of course, that is true. The Bible reveals that God is the Sovereign Lord over everything. He cannot be lacking in strength or power to accomplish anything He desires. The Almighty Sovereign Lord is the God of the Bible. But logic also tells us that there are things that God necessarily cannot do. God cannot be inconsistent with Himself. He cannot lie; if He did, He wouldn’t be the God of the Bible who is revealed as Truth. God cannot sin. To do so would enthrone Evil as the Sovereign Lord. God cannot change; to do so He would have to become better than He is now (which is inconsistent with His holy perfection as revealed in Scripture) or He would have to somehow diminish Himself. In the latter case, He would not be the God of the Bible. God’s purposes cannot be frustrated. He cannot fail. God cannot be unfaithful. He is always consistent with Himself. God is limited by His unlimited perfections. What does this mean for you and me? It means He is our “Rock” – our “Firm Foundation” for living. Strengthen your faith, for He can be trusted. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you. (Psalm 55:22a) Pastor Bob
