Utah Baseball Plays First Home Games vs. Sacramento State
The Utah baseball team plays its first home games of the season this weekend, beginning an eight-game home stand against Sacramento State on Friday, March 23. The three-game series against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. MT on Friday. The series continues on Saturday, March 24, and Sunday, March 25, both games at 1:00 p.m. MT. All three games will be live streamed on UtahUtes.com. Radio is on ESPN 700 AM. Utah begins its season-long ‘Black Friday’ promotion on Friday with fans wearing black receiving free admission. On Saturday, Kelly the Salt Flats Dog and the Utah Animal Adoption Center will throw out the ceremonial first pitch (weather permitting). Utah (2-17) leads the Pac-12 in stolen bases (21) and ranks fifth in the league in hits (160). Ute pitchers lead the league with six pickoffs and are tied for fourth in the Pac-12 in strikeouts (149). The Utes rank third in the league in fielding percentage (.981). Tanner Thomas is tied for the Pac-12 lead with 32 strikeouts and ranks sixth in the league in strikeout to walk ratio (5.33). Brett Brocoff is tied for eighth in the league with 28 strikeouts. Chandler Anderson and Oliver Dunn are tied for third in the Pac-12 with five stolen bases each. Anderson is tied for third in the league in doubles (7) while Dunn is sixth in the Pac-12 with 15 walks. Wade Gulden is tied for fourth in the league with two triples. Sacramento State is 8-11 on the season and has won three of its last four games. The Hornets recently won two out of three against UC Santa Barbara.
Infield
· Sophomore Oliver Dunn is in his second year starting at second base. He is hitting .239 and is sixth in the Pac-12 in walks (15), tied for third in the league with five stolen bases (5-of-6) and has a .382 on-base percentage. Dunn leads the team with 10 runs scored and is tied for third on the team with six multiple-hit games. He is tied for third on the team with seven RBI and has one double and one home run. · Dunn has a .247 career batting average (70 career games). · Senior Wade Gulden has started 18 games at first base. He is hitting .188 with a team-leading two triples (tied for fourth in the Pac-12), two doubles and five RBI.
· Gulden has played in 127 career games with 86 starts between the infield, outfield and designated hitter. He has a .234 career batting average. · At third base, Ryker Tom is hitting .274 and leads the team with 20 hits. He is tied for the team lead with nine RBI. Tom also has four doubles, one home run and has scored eight runs (tied for second on the team). He is tied for the team lead with seven multiple-hit games and had a team-long nine-game hitting streak from Feb. 18-March 5. · Tom went 2-for-4 with two doubles in game two against USC last weekend. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI against BYU on Tuesday, including a solo home run and a two-RBI single to tie the game in the ninth inning. · Tom transferred from San Diego and redshirted before beginning his freshman season at Utah. · Freshman Matt Richardson has started 13 games at shortstop and leads the team with a .356 batting average and a .420 on-base percentage and has a .444 slugging percentage. Richardson has two doubles, a triple, five runs, three RBI and three stolen bases (3-for-4). · Richardson is on a four-game hit streak. He hit .333 (2-of-6) against USC last weekend with at least one hit in each game and had two stolen bases, and followed up with a two-hit performance against BYU. · Redshirt freshman Davis Delorefice has a .246 batting average and has scored eight runs (tied for second on the team). He has two doubles and four RBI. Delorefice has started 15 games total, including seven in the infield, four in right field and four at designated hitter. · Redshirt freshman Braden DeBenedictis has started five games at designated hitter (eight total games) and made two appearances as a sub at first base. He is hitting .227 on the year. DeBenedictis recently went 2-for-3 in game three against USC and had several strong defensive plays against BYU on Tuesday. · Freshman Shea Kramer has started at first, designated hitter, right field and catcher over 11 games (nine total starts). He is hitting .194. Kramer has five RBI, four runs scored, a home run and a double on the year. · Freshman Demitri Colacchio has started two games at designated hitter (five games total) and is hitting .125 in eighth at-bats. · Junior Isaac Cruz has made three appearances, with his first start at DH in game one against USC. He is 1-for-1 with the bases loaded this year and is hitting .200 (1-of-5) on the season with two RBI.

2018 Utah Baseball Outfield
· Junior DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., is second on the team with a .354 batting average. He is tied for second on the team with 17 hits and is second with five doubles. He is second on the team with a .458 slugging percentage and has scored seven runs, five RBI and three stolen bases (3of-5). Keirsey has five multiple-hit games and is 6-of-11 (.545) with runners in scoring position. He has started nine games in the outfield and two at designated hitter. Keirsey is currently on a five-game hitting streak. · A two-time All-Pac-12 player, Keirsey has a .315 career batting average. · Junior Chandler Anderson has started every game in left field and is hitting .208 on the year. Migueles went 2-for-3 on Tuesday against BYU, a career-best performance. · Migueles is a transfer from Pima Community College.
Catcher
· Freshman Christopher Rowan, Jr., has started 14 games at catcher and is tied for third in the Pac-12 with five runners caught stealing. Rowan is hitting .200 with two RBI and one double. · Freshman Shea Kramer has also started five games at catcher (see under ‘infield’ for more).
Pitchers
· Junior Josh Tedeschi has pitched in five games with one start (24 innings) and regularly pitches in long relief. He has a 4.88 ERA and is third on the team with 25 strikeouts. · Tedeschi had a strong outing in a start against USC last week, allowing two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. · Tedeschi has 33 career appearances with a 5.21 ERA and 2-4 record. · Senior Tanner Thomas is tied for the Pac-12 lead with 32 strikeouts and ranks sixth in the league in strikeout to walk ratio (5.33). He has
a 3.38 ERA over a team-leading 29 1/3 innings with a 1-2 record and has surrendered just six walks. ·Thomas recently pitched seven shutout innings against USC, allowing two hits with five strikeouts. · Thomas has pitched in 49 games (eight starts) with a 4.17 career ERA and 95 strikeouts. · Freshman Brett Brocoff, Utah’s Sunday starter, is second on the team and tied for eighth in the Pac-12 with 28 strikeouts. He has a 3.70 ERA (third on the team) with a 1-3 record over 24 1/3 innings pitched (second on the team). Brocoff has allowed just three extra-base hits. · Brocoff was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Player of the Week against Oral Roberts when he tied the school record with 12 strikeouts. · Brocoff was a 28th-round selection in the MLB Draft out of high school to the Atlanta Braves. · Junior Kyle Robeniol has started four games and has a 4.08 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings pitched with an 0-2 record. He has been Utah’s Friday starter but last pitched against UC Riverside. · Robeniol earned All-So-Cal and all-conference honors at Orange Coast College in 2017 after transferring from Oregon. · Sophomore Jacob Rebar has made six appearances with one start (13 1/3 innings) and has a 6.08 ERA with nine strikeouts. He is tied for third in the Pac-12 with two pickoffs. · Rebar has pitched in 23 career games (five starts) with a 5.81 ERA and a 3-5 record. · Senior Trenton Stoltz is tied for the Pac-12 lead with 11 appearances (9 2/3 total innings), all less than two innings. He has a 6.52 ERA and seven strikeouts with a 0-1 record and one save. · Stoltz has made 65 relief appearances and has a career 4.58 ERA with a 1-3 record and two saves. · Sophomore Spencer Kevin Johnson has made seven appearances (12 innings) and leads Utah with a 1.50 ERA. He has 12 strikeouts. · Kevin Johnson has pitched in 11 games at Utah and has a 3.00 career ERA. · Senior Josh Lapiana has made five appearances with two mid-week starts (10 total innings).
