UTAH BASEBALL 2018 GAME NOTES Utah vs. Oregon State • Mar. 29-31 Utah Baseball Hosts No. 1 Oregon State
The Utah baseball team hosts No. 1 ranked Oregon State for a three-game Pac-12 series beginning on Thursday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m. MT. Game two of the series begins on Friday, March 30, at 6:00 p.m. MT, with game three on Saturday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m. MT. All three games will be live streamed on UtahUtes.com. Saturday’s game will be aired on ESPN 700. Utah (4-19) s tied for second in the Pac-12 with 23 stolen bases. The Utes are tied for third in the league in triples (3), fourth in the league in hits (205) and total bases (279). Ute pitchers lead the league with seven pickoffs. Utah is fifth in the Pac-12 in fielding percentage (.976) and third in assists (227). DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., is sixth in the Pac-12 with a .375 batting average. Oliver Dunn and Chandler Anderson are tied for sixth in the league with five stolen bases while Dunn ranks sixth in walks (16) and fielding assists (55). On the mound, Tanner Thomas is tied for seventh in the league in strikeouts (34) and is 10th in innings pitched (33 1/3). Trenton Stoltz is tied for third in the Pac-12 with 13 appearances. Brett Brocoff is one of seven pitchers who has not allowed a home run this year. Oregon State (20-2) is ranked No. 1 in nearly every college baseball poll and leads the nation in won/loss percentage. The Beavers returned several key players from last season’s College World Series run.
Infield
· Sophomore Oliver Dunn is in his second year starting at second base. He is hitting .295 (third on the team) and is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with five stolen bases (5-of-6) and is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 in walks (16). Dunn leads the team with 14 runs scored, 26 hits and 13 RBI, is tied for the team lead with two triples, three home runs and eight multiple-hit games and ranks second on the team with a .411 on-base percentage and a .455 slugging percentage. A strong fielder, he is sixth in the Pac-12 in assists (55) and has just three errors this year (.970 fielding percentage). · Dunn is on a five-game hitting streak. He hit .571 (8-of-14) last weekend against Sacramento State with six RBI, four runs scored, two triples and two home runs. Dunn went 4-for-6 in game one of the doubleheader and 3-for-4 with four RBI in game two. · Dunn has a .264 career batting average (74 career games). · Senior Wade Gulden has started 18 games at
first base with one start in left field (23 total games). He is hitting .173 and is tied for the team lead with two triples. Gulden has two doubles and five RBI. · Gulden has played in 131 career games with 87 starts between the infield, outfield and designated hitter. He has a .230 career batting average. · At third base, Ryker Tom is hitting .281 and is tied for the team lead with eight multiple-hit games. He is second on the team with 25 hits, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored. Tom also has four doubles and one home run. · Tom hit .417 (5-of-12) over the weekend against Sacramento State, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored in game two of the series. · Tom transferred from San Diego and redshirted before beginning his freshman season at Utah. · Freshman Matt Richardson has started 17 games at shortstop and is second on the team with a .305 batting average. He is the eighthtoughest player in the Pac-12 to strike out, once every 9.8 at bats. He has a .364 on-base percentage and .373 slugging percentage. Richardson has two doubles, a triple, six runs, seven RBI and three stolen bases (3-for-5). · Richardson had a hit in two of three games against Sacramento State, driving in three runs in game two of the series. · Redshirt freshman Davis Delorefice has a .266 batting average and has scored 10 runs (third on the team). He has two doubles and four RBI. Delorefice has started 17 games total, including seven in the infield, six in the outfield and four at designated hitter. · Delorefice is on a four-game hitting streak. He went 2-for-3 and scored twice in his only game against Sacramento State, and also had a hit against UNLV on Tuesday. · Redshirt freshman Braden DeBenedictis has started five games at designated hitter and four at first base over 12 total games. He is hitting .265 on the year with three RBI, two runs scored, a double and a triple. DeBenedictis recently went 3-for-4 with three RBI in game two against Sacramento State. · Freshman Shea Kramer has started at first, designated hitter, right field and catcher over 13 games (11 total starts). He is hitting .209. Kramer has seven RBI, six runs scored, a home run and a three doubles on the year. He went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two doubles in game two against Sacramento State. · Freshman Demitri Colacchio has started two games at designated hitter (five games total) and is hitting .125 in eighth at-bats. · Junior Isaac Cruz has made four appearances, with his first start at DH in game one against USC. He is 1-for-1 with the bases loaded this year and is hitting .200 (1-of-5) on the season with two RBI.

2018 Utah Baseball Outfield
· Junior DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. leads Utah and is sixth in the Pac-12 with a .375 batting average. He leads Utah with a .423 on-base percentage and a .484 slugging percentage and is tied for the team lead with seven doubles and eight multiple-hit games. He has scored nine runs, has five RBI and three stolen bases (3-for-5). He is 7-of-15 (.467) with runners in scoring position. He has started nine games in the outfield and six at designated hitter. · Keirsey is currently on a team-long nine-game hitting streak, the longest current streak on the team. He hit .417 (5-of-12) with two doubles against Sacramento State over the weekend. · A two-time All-Pac-12 player, Keirsey has a .319 career batting average. · Junior Chandler Anderson has started 19 games in left field and is hitting .208 on the year and is tied for the team lead with seven doubles. He is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 in stolen bases (5-of-5). Anderson has scored eight runs and has two RBI. Anderson has recently been sidelined due to injury. · Anderson has 60 career starts (95 games) with a .276 career batting average. · Sophomore Dominic Foscalina has started in both center and left field (20 total starts). Catcher
· Freshman Christopher Rowan, Jr., has started 17 games at catcher and is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with six runners caught stealing. Rowan is hitting .278 with three RBI and three doubles with a stolen base. · Rowan hit .667 (6-of-9) over three games and two starts last weekend against Sacramento State with two doubles and an RBI. He had a hit in each game and multiple hits in each game of the doubleheader on Saturday. · Freshman Shea Kramer has also started six games at catcher (see under ‘infield’ for more).
Pitchers
· Junior Josh Tedeschi has pitched in six games with two starts (31 innings). He was pitching in long relief before starting the past two weekends. Tedeschi has a 4.35 ERA and is led for second on the team with 29 strikeouts. · Tedeschi has a 2.70 ERA in his two starts, allowing four runs with 11 strikeouts over 13 1/3 innings over two games against USC and Sacramento State. · Tedeschi has 34 career appearances with a 4.92 ERA and 2-5 record. · Senior Tanner Thomas is tied for seventh in the Pac-12 with 34 strikeouts and ranks 10th in the league in innings pitched (33 1/3). He has a 4.59 ERA with a 1-2 record. ·Thomas pitched seven shutout innings against USC in his last Pac-12 outing, allowing two hits with five strikeouts. · Thomas has pitched in 50 games (nine starts) with a 4.49 career ERA and 97 strikeouts. · Freshman Brett Brocoff, Utah’s Sunday starter, is tied for second on the team with 29 strikeouts. He has a 3.95 ERA (third on the team) with a 1-3 record over 27 1/3 innings pitched (third on the team). Brocoff has allowed just four extra-base hits (all doubles) and is one of seven pitchers in the league who has not surrendered a home run this year. · Brocoff was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Player of the Week against Oral Roberts when he tied the school record with 12 strikeouts. · Brocoff was a 28th-round selection in the MLB Draft out of high school to the Atlanta Braves. · Senior Trenton Stoltz is tied for third in the Pac-12 with 13 appearances (10 total innings), all less than two innings. He has a 6.30 ERA and eight strikeouts with a 0-1 record and one save. · Stoltz has made 66 relief appearances and has a career 4.56 ERA with a 1-3 record and two saves. · Sophomore Jacob Rebar has made eight appearances with one start (16 innings) and has a 5.06 ERA with 10 strikeouts. He is tied for second in the Pac-12 with three pickoffs. · Rebar has pitched in 25 career games (five starts) with a 5.53 ERA and a 3-5 record. · Sophomore Spencer Kevin Johnson has made eight appearances (14 innings) and leads Utah with a 1.29 ERA. He has 15 strikeouts. · Kevin Johnson has pitched in 12 games at Utah and has a 2.70 career ERA. · Senior Josh Lapiana has made six appearances with two mid-week starts (14 2/3 total innings). He has a 9.20 ERA and 0-2 record with eight strikeouts. Lapiana is tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with two pickoffs. · Lapiana has been Utah’s Sunday starter in previous years.
