Utah Baseball Takes on Utah Valley
The Utah baseball team travels to Orem for an in-state game against Utah Valley on Tuesday, May 15, at 6:00 p.m. MT. The contest is the second between the teams this season. Utah won the first game in Salt Lake City on April 10, 10-6. Utah is fourth in the Pac-12 in triples (15), tied for fifth in doubles (83) and ranks sixth in hits (442). Utah is fourth in the league in double plays (38) and ranks fifth in assists (477). The pitchers lead the league with 14 pickoffs. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., ranks in the top 10 in the league in several categories including leading the league in doubles (21) and ranking fourth in the Pac-12 in batting average (.378). He is third in the league in hits per game (1.51). Keirsey is on a 15-game hitting streak and has had a hit in 33 out of Utah’s last 34 games. Oliver Dunn is tied for fourth in the league with 29 double plays and ranks sixth in assists (124). On the pitching staff, Trenton Stoltz is second in the Pac-12 with 29 appearances on the mound and is tied for fifth with six saves. Josh Lapiana’s four pickoffs is tied for second in the league. Tanner Thomas has allowed just three home runs this year, which is among the fewest in the league. Utah Valley is 15-33 this season. The Wolverines recently dropped two of three to Seattle. Utah plays its final home games of the season this week, opening a three-game series against Washington on Thursday, May 17.
Infield
· Sophomore Oliver Dunn is in his second year starting at second base and is the only player to play in every game this year. He is tied for second on the team with a .311 batting average and tied for 11th in the Pac-12 with 29 walks. Dunn is tied for sixth in the league with four triples. He leads Utah with 28 RBI and six stolen bases (6-of-8) and is tied for the team lead with four home runs and 18 multiple-hit games. Dunn ranks second on the team with 30 runs scored, a .417 on-base percentage and .461 slugging percentage. He has 56 hits, seven doubles and four multiple-RBI games. Dunn is hitting .327 with two outs and .314 with runners on base. In the field, he is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with 29 double plays and is sixth in assists (124). · Dunn had hits in two of three games against Oregon, including two hits and an RBI in game one of the series.
· Dunn has a .279 career batting average (99 career games). · Senior Wade Gulden has started 35 games at first base with two starts in left field (37 total games). He is hitting .212 and has three triples. Gulden is second on the team with 20 walks, has three doubles (tied for seventh in the Pac12), two home runs, 15 RBI, four multiple-RBI games and has scored 16 runs. · Gulden has played in 154 career games with 105 starts between the infield, outfield and designated hitter. He has a .235 career batting average. · At third base, Rykker Tom is tied for second on the team with a .311 batting average and is also second with 57 hits. He is tied for second on the team with 10 doubles and 24 RBI. Tom is tied for the team lead with 18 multiple-hit games and ranks second with five multiple-RBI games. He has 28 runs, 19 walks, a .383 slugging percentage, a .385 on-base percentage, one home run and a stolen base and is hitting .319 with runners on base. · Tom had hits in two of three games against Oregon. · Tom transferred from San Diego and redshirted before beginning his freshman season at Utah. · Freshman Matt Richardson has started 41 games at shortstop and has a .245 batting average. He has 19 RBI, 16 runs scored, 35 hits, 11 walks, five doubles, one triple, one home run, four multiple-RBI games and is 4-of-6 in stolen bases. He is 10th in the league with 112 assists and is tied for eighth in the Pac-12 with 26 double plays. · Richardson had hits in two of three games against Oregon. · Redshirt freshman Davis Delorefice has a .252 batting average and has scored 19 runs. He has two doubles, a triple, 32 hits, 10 walks, 12 RBI and a stolen base. Delorefice has started 34 games, including nine in the infield, 20 in the outfield (stepping in due to an outfielder shortage due to injuries) and five at designated hitter. He is 2-for-2 with the bases loaded this year and is hitting .326 with two outs. · Redshirt freshman Braden DeBenedictis has started nine games at designated hitter and 10 at first base over 27 total games. He is hitting .296 on the year with six RBI, six walks, five runs scored, a double, a triple and a stolen base with a .363 on-base percentage. · DeBenedictis had a hit in one of his two games played against Oregon.

2018 Utah Baseball · Junior Isaac Cruz has made 12 appearances with two starts at designated hitter. He is hitting .313 (5-of-16) on the season with two RBI, a double and a stolen base. Outfield
· Junior DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. is fourth in the Pac-12 with a .378 batting average. · Sophomore Jacob Rebar has made 18 appearances with two starts (36 1/3 innings) and has a 8.42 ERA with 25 strikeouts (0-2 record) and two saves.
