Utah Baseball Travels to Arizona State

The Utah baseball team hits the road this weekend to take on Arizona State beginning on Friday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. MST/PT (7:30 p.m. MDT). The series continues on Saturday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. MST/PT and 7:30 p.m. MDT, and concludes on Sunday, April 22, at 12:30 p.m. MST/PT and 1:30 p.m. MDT. All three games will be live streamed at Pac12.com. Both Utah (9-25, 4-8 Pac-12) and Arizona State come into the weekend looking to get back on track after being swept by ranked teams last week. The Utes dropped three to 17th-ranked UCLA while Arizona State is coming off three losses to No. 2-ranked Stanford. The Sun Devils are 14-22 overall and 6-9 in the Pac-12. Utah leads the Pac-12 with 30 double plays and ranks third with 360 assists and fifth in fielding percentage (.976). The Utes are fourth with 29 stolen bases and tied for fourth with eight triples. Utah pitchers are tied for first in the Pac-12 with 13 pickoffs. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., ranks in the top 10 in the league in several categories including leading the league in doubles (14) and ranking second in slugging percentage (.389). He is ninth in the NCAA in doubles per game (0.48). Keirsey is also third in the Pac-12 in hits per game (1.52). Oliver Dunn ranks third in the league in assists and is tied for second with 24 double plays. Matt Richardson is tied for fifth in the league with 22 double plays and is fifth in assists (86). Wade Gulden ranks tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with three triples. Trenton Stoltz is third in the Pac-12 with 20 appearances and is tied for eighth in the league with four saves. Brett Brocoff is one of three pitchers in the Pac12 this year who has not given up a home run.

Infield

· Sophomore Oliver Dunn is in his second year starting at second base and is the only player to play in every game this year. He is second on the team with a .295 batting average and tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with 24 walks. He also leads Utah with 21 RBI and is tied for the team lead with four home runs and five stolen bases (5-of-6). Dunn ranks second on the team with 22 runs scored, a .409 on-base percentage, .442 slugging percentage, and two triples and

is tied for second with 38 hits, 11 multiple-hit games and four multiple-RBI games. In the field, he is third in the Pac-12 in assists (100) and is tied for second with 24 double plays. · Dunn has had a hit in 15 of Utah’s last 18 games and has reached base in 16 straight games. He hit .625 (5-of-8) against UCLA over the weekend with three RBI, three runs scored and four walks. · Dunn has a .268 career batting average (85 career games). · Senior Wade Gulden has started 25 games at first base with two starts in left field (33 total games). He is hitting .230 and is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 and leads Utah with three triples. Gulden is second on the team with 14 walks, has three doubles, nine RBI and has scored 10 runs. · Gulden hit .500 (4-of-8) with a double over the two games he played vs. UCLA. He was 3-for-4 with a double in game two of the series. · Gulden has played in 141 career games with 95 starts between the infield, outfield and designated hitter. He has a .242 career batting average. · At third base, Rykker Tom is third on the team with a .288 batting average and is tied for second on the team with 19 hits and 11 multiplehit games. He is third on the team with 19 runs scored and seven doubles. Tom has 14 RBI, 10 walks, one home run and a stolen base. · Tom transferred from San Diego and redshirted before beginning his freshman season at Utah. · Freshman Matt Richardson has started 28 games at shortstop and has a .280 batting average. He is second on the team with 17 RBI. Richardson has scored 12 runs, has two doubles, one triple, one home run and is 4-of-6 in stolen bases. He is fifth in the league with 86 assists and is tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with 22 double plays. · Redshirt freshman Davis Delorefice has a .283 batting average and has scored 16 runs. He has two doubles, a triple and 10 RBI. Delorefice has started 28 games, including seven in the infield, 17 in the outfield (stepping in due to an outfielder shortage due to injuries) and four at designated hitter. He is 2-for-2 with the bases loaded this year and is hitting .343 with two outs.

2018 Utah Baseball · Delorefice hit .364 (4-of-11) with a triple and an RBI over two games against UCLA. · Redshirt freshman Braden DeBenedictis has started seven games at designated hitter and eight at first base over 18 total games. He is hitting .315 on the year with four RBI, three runs scored, a double and a triple. · DeBenedictis is on a six-game hitting streak. He went 2-for-4 in game three against UCLA, his only game of the series. · Junior Isaac Cruz has made five appearances, with one start at designated hitter. He is 1-for1 with the bases loaded this year and is hitting .125 (1-of-6) on the season with two RBI. · Freshman Demitri Colacchio has started two games at designated hitter (seven games total) and is hitting .100 in 10 at-bats.

Outfield

· Junior DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. is second in the Pac-12 with a .389 batting average. He leads the league with 14 doubles and is ninth in the nation in doubles per game (0.48). Keirsey is third in the league in hits per game (1.52), ninth in slugging percentage (.593) and tied for ninth in hits (44). In addition to leading Utah in the above categories, he also leads the Utes with a .437 on-base percentage, 24 runs scored and 14 multiple-hit games. He has 16 RBI, four multiple-RBI games (tied for second on the team), three home runs and four stolen bases (4-of-6). Keirsey is hitting .393 with runners in scoring position. · Keirsey is hitting .375 in Pac-12 play with a .422 on-base percentage and .725 slugging percentage. · Keirsey has been stymied with a hamstring injury which saw him start at designated hitter for most of the season. He moved back to the outfield for the first time since the second weekend of the season against Cal. · Keirsey recently had a team-long 18-game hitting streak snapped in game two against UCLA, but followed that with a two-hit performance in game three of the series. · A two-time All-Pac-12 player, Keirsey has a .327 career batting average. · Junior Chandler Anderson has started 19 games in left field (four at DH) and is hitting .213 on the year and is second on the team with eight doubles. He is hitting .203, has eight RBI, 10 runs scored, seven walks, a home run and five doubles on the year.

Catcher

· Freshman Christopher Rowan, Jr., has started 25 games at catcher and has caught eight runners stealing (sixth in the Pac-12). Rowan is hitting .241 with five doubles, six RBI, 10 walks and seven runs scored. He is 2-for-2 in stolen bases. · Freshman Shea Kramer has also started nine games at catcher (see under ‘outfield’ for more).

Pitchers

· Junior Josh Tedeschi has pitched in nine games with five starts (45 1/3 innings). He was pitching in long relief before starting the past five weekends. Tedeschi has a 5.96 ERA and is second on the team with 36 strikeouts. He has two pickoffs. Tedeschi is 0-7 on the year. · Tedeschi has 37 career appearances with a 5.74 ERA and 2-7 record. · Senior Tanner Thomas leads Utah with 44 strikeouts and 49 1/3 innings pitched. He is second on the team with a 4.56 ERA and has a 2-2 record. ·Thomas allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts over five innings in game two against UCLA. · Thomas has pitched in 53 games (12 starts) with a 4.49 career ERA and 107 strikeouts. · Freshman Brett Brocoff (nine starts) is third on the team with 33 strikeouts. He has a 5.67 ERA with a 2-5 record over 39 2/3 innings pitched (third on the team). 2018 Utah Baseball · Junior Kyle Robeniol has started four games (five appearances) and leads Utah with a 3.72 ERA. He has 19 strikeouts over 19 1/3 innings pitched with an 0-2 record. · Robeniol started the year as Utah’s Friday starter but spent four weekends on the bench with an injury before returning in a relief appearance against UCLA. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, striking out three. · Robeniol earned All-So-Cal and all-conference honors at Orange Coast College in 2017 after transferring from Oregon. · Senior Josh Lapiana has made nine appearances with two mid-week starts (25 1/3 total innings).
