The Brewers have catapulted up the Liberty League standings thanks to their four wins this season, sitting a game behind Clarkson University for the top spot in the conference right now. Vassar currently has the fifth-best batting average in the conference, but has shown patience at the plate, earning the second-most walks and the most hit by pitches of any team in the Liberty League. The pitching staff for the Brewers have struck out 171 batters this year, fourth-most in the conference while VC’s defense has been stout, fielding at a .957 clip this year which is third-highest in the conference. Individually, Nick Johnson is fourth in the conference in batting average with a .383 clip while posting a Liberty League leading 13 doubles on the season. Last weekend, Johnson became the all-time leader at Vassar in two-baggers Saturday afternoon and his 62 total bases this season are fifth-most in the league.
A Look at the KNIGHTS Mount Saint Mary College lost its last two contests this past Sunday afternoon to Farmingdale State, but prior to that had knocked off Maritime College and Yeshiva University in a pair of doubleheaders. The Knights currently sit in fifth place within the Skyline Conference, sitting a game and a half behind Maritime for fourth place. Mount Saint Mary is posting a team batting average of .248 this season, while the pitching has allowed 6.31 runs per game. Matt Cahill is leading the team in batting average and most offensive categories, as he is hitting .339 on the season with 41 hits, four doubles and a home. He is second on the squad with 15 RBI, while his slugging percentage is second only to the .451 clip from Blake Keegan. Keegan has a team-leading four triples this season, while starting 32 games for the Knights.

Brewer Bio on . . . ROBERT WINKELMANN Winkelmann, a junior reliever from nearby Wappingers Falls, New York, has become one of the steadiest bullpen arms in all of the Liberty League. The tall righty came to Vassar College as a catcher, but moved to the mound as a freshman and hasn’t looked back, making 28 appearances over his last two seasons. Winkelmann has a dynamic curve ball, which has led to him being one of the best strikeout pitchers in the conference. This season, Winkelmann is striking out right-handed batters at an amazing clip, fanning 11.8 right-handers per nine innings. Hitters this season are batting just .206 against him, while his in-conference numbers are even better. During the 16 conference games this year, Winkelmann has worked 10.1 innings, allowing just seven hits while fanning 13 batters and holding opposition to a .175 batting average against.
