Vassar College goes into Wednesday’s game having lost three of its last four in the series against Clarkson, just after taking three out of four against Skidmore. The one win against Clarkson was eked out 9-7 behind the bats of Cory Wuenschell, Dakota Sagnelli, Matt Hernandez, Mike Koscielniak, and Nick Johnson, who all had RBIs. Many other players contributed as well, in fact all but one of the Brewers’ starters had a hit in that game. Nick Johnson increased his tally of hits to 31 over the series, although his average dropped below .400. Cory Wuenschell increased his RBI total to 16, tying Johnson for the team lead. Denis Shanagher is approaching double digits in the steal column with nine steals currently. Robert Winkelmann did get his first win of the season, as he only gave up one run in 2.1 innings Sunday against Clarkson.
A Look at the PANTHERS Old Westbury is coming into the matchup against Vassar this Wednesday right on the heels of a four-game winning streak, including a double header in which they clobbered Yeshiva University, taking the first game 22-1 and the second 17-0. There’s no question that this team is hot right now, and they’ll be looking to continue their streak against the Brewers. This team is stacked with great hitters. Five of the six Old Westbury hitters with 70 or more at-bats are slugging over .500, and all six are hitting over .300. Jesse Russo and Tommy Ziegen are tied for the league lead in hits with 38 each, and Ziegen also has two home runs, 9 doubles, and 27 RBIs on the season. The Panthers have managed to put up similarly gaudy numbers on the opposite side of the ball, sporting a team ERA of 3.55. Opposing hitters have been held to an average of .240, while the staff has only allowed three home runs all season.

Vassar vs. OLD WESTBURY
Vassar has gone 1-6-1 all-time against the Panthers of Old Westbury, with VC’s lone win coming back in 2012, a 5-3 win at the Panthers. The last game these two teams played ended in a 2-2 tie in 2013.

Brewer Bio on . . . MIKE KOSCIELNIAK Mike Koscielniak, a junior from Crystal Lake, Illinois, has come on as of late for the Brewer offense, as his left-handed bat has provided some pop in the designated hitter and left field spots for the Brewers. Koscielniak has a strong batters eye, and has shown to be able to drive the gap thus far in his limited at-bats. He also has been an option out of the bullpen, as the only left-handed reliever for the Brewers. As a freshman, Koscielniak earned 10 at bats, posting two hits and a run scored, while appearing in a team-high 14 games, posting one save and striking out 13 hitters in 18.2 innings. Last season, Koscielniak dealt with arm issues, but he has bounced back this year to hit .500 in 16 at-bats, going 8-for-16 with a double and six runs scored. He is getting on base right now at a .652 percentage, the best on the squad.

Vassar vs. OLD WESTBURY
Vassar has gone 1-6-1 all-time against the Panthers of Old Westbury, with VC’s lone win coming back in 2012, a 5-3 win at the Panthers. The last game these two teams played ended in a 2-2 tie in 2013.

Brewer Bio on . . . MIKE KOSCIELNIAK Mike Koscielniak, a junior from Crystal Lake, Illinois, has come on as of late for the Brewer offense, as his left-handed bat has provided some pop in the designated hitter and left field spots for the Brewers. Koscielniak has a strong batters eye, and has shown to be able to drive the gap thus far in his limited at-bats. He also has been an option out of the bullpen, as the only left-handed reliever for the Brewers. As a freshman, Koscielniak earned 10 at bats, posting two hits and a run scored, while appearing in a team-high 14 games, posting one save and striking out 13 hitters in 18.2 innings. Last season, Koscielniak dealt with arm issues, but he has bounced back this year to hit .500 in 16 at-bats, going 8-for-16 with a double and six runs scored. He is getting on base right now at a .652 percentage, the best on the squad.
