April 2016 My Fellow Knights, With our spring sports in full swing, I would like to take a moment and share our most recent postseason honors from our winter sports with you. Our 2016 NEC Men’s Basketball Champions continue to receive recognition for their outstanding season. Sophomore Earl Potts Jr. was named All-Met Third Team by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association earlier this week and Second Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Potts Jr. was the NEC Tournament MVP and the conference’s Most Improved Player this season. Sophomore Darian Anderson joined Potts Jr. on the NABC All-District Second Team after being named Second Team All-NEC last month. Head coach Greg Herenda received the 2016 NABC UPS Division I District 18 Coach of the Year Award and served as a keynote clinician for the NABC Professional Development Series at the NCAA Final Four in Houston, Texas. The goal of the series is to develop the next generation of head coaches in men’s basketball. Senior Nicolette Sarin and junior Melanie Hannon led our women’s bowling team this season. Hannon became only the fourth Knight in program history to garner First Team All-NEC three times and Sarin picked up her second First Team selection. Our women’s cross country student-athletes were recognized for an outstanding academic achievement. Our team was acknowledged by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association as a Division I All-Academic team. Our student-athletes posted a team GPA of 3.469 during the fall semester. The 26th Annual Janney Montgomery Scott Knights Golf Classic will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016. For the second consecutive year, our golf outing will be held at Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, New Jersey. The Hackensack Golf Club is one of Bergen County’s most historic clubs and courses. Funding challenges are a reality and the importance of growing our alumni support is more significant now than ever. Your support of Burgundy and Blue and the success of signature fundraising events allow our athletics department to move forward and maintain a growing operating budget to provide the best opportunities for our student-athletes.
