It was a rough NACC weekend for Edgewood College as the Eagles dropped all four games to the top two teams in the NACC preseason poll. On Saturday, the Eagles saw their game two comeback fall short losing 8-2 and 12-8 to Benedictine University. The next day, the Eagles lost twice to defending NACC champion Concordia University Chicago 17-7 and 7-5. The Eagles slipped from a tie for first to a tie for fourth in the league. After dropping the first game to Benedictine, the Eagles rallied back from a 8-5 deficit with a Tim Nunn RBI single in the seventh, and the tied the game in the eighth when Danny Appino drove home Ryan Cassady with a sacrifice fly, and Jeff Tucker scored on a wild pitch. However, Benedictine posted four runs in the ninth for the win. Appino had five hits in the doubleheader. On Sunday, the Eagles struggled to contain the Cougars’ offense in game one, but Nick Lehner kept Edgewood College close in game two. Down 6-1, Appino smacked an RBI double in the seventh inning, which set up Lehner for a three-run home run, to bring the Eagles within 6-5. Lehner hit two home runs on the day, one in each game, and finished with six runs batted in. Nunn went 2-for-4 in each game, including a two-run double in game one.
