Grand Junction Fire FC Res Session Planner U9 Week 7 April 30 - May 4 Theme: Passing and Receiving Whilst Moving Aim: To improve a players ability to pass and receive the ball while moving. To improve a players ability to pass to someone else who is moving
Warm up: create a large circle around 25yds across. Everyone on the outside apart from 2 players. Players work for around 30 seconds, one leading and one following. The leader will receive a pass from someone on the outside and try to stop the ball dead, before moving on to another player on the outside. The follower then plays the ball back to the player on the outside, before moving on to the next ball. Switch roles after 30 seconds. Progress by: after one go around each, make it a competition to see if the leader can get a few balls ahead of the follower, then switch roles Coaching points: passes into feet, good first touch to stop the ball, communication between leader and players on outside, awareness of next ball, good passing technique.
Technical work: same circle. Half players now on outside with a ball, half on inside without a ball. Change roles every minute. First rotation is a give and go, player on the inside runs toward a passer on outside, receives a pass and then plays it straight back. Then players on inside take the balls. Second rotation player on inside dribbles before passing to someone on outside, then moves to a new angle before receiving the ball back and dribbling to a new player on outside. Balls back to outside. Third rotation is third man run. Player on inside receives a pass and plays it straight back before another player comes in to receive and dribble towards a player on outside without a ball. If no third player, passer on outside keeps the ball. Progress by: repeating rotations again, as players may struggle first time though. Coaching points: all above coaching points, open body to receive back, be able to see the whole circle, when to support another player Game scenario: area 30x25 with end zones approx 5yds deep where one team have one player occupying one, the other team one occupying that. Even numbers in the middle. End zone players are unchallenged and can be used at any time to switch the ball. Aim is for a ball to be played into opposing teams end zone into the path of a runner who receives it in there, or just before and takes a touch into their. 1 point for each time this happens. Rotate end zone players regularly. Progress by: allowing end zone players to be challenged, allowing them to try and intercept a pass played into a runner Coaching points: all above points, weight of pass into a run, awareness of runners, good first touch to receive while moving, when to possess and when to penetrate Small sided game: ‘Breakout soccer’ area 40x30. 3v3 or 4v4 in the middle zone with goalkeepers and one defender in end zones if numbers allow. Players try to combine in the middle and one player can break out to attack goal. Must try to use a through ball, give and go, third man run or overlap to do so. Players cant just dribble into end zone. Progress by: changing numbers in middle to allow an end zone defender. Coaching points: same points as the game scenario
