Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE July 20-23, 2011 Content in Life Obstacles—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a teenager goes first): Say: Someday when you come to my home to see your grandchildren, you will see my family experiencing family worship just like this. When I think about carrying on this legacy, it makes me feel . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: Philippians 4:11-13
Truth • A believer’s contentment is centered in Christ and doesn’t depend on circumstances. Untruths • To be happy, I need everything to go my way. • I deserve happiness and a life with no real problems. • Obstacles are pointless and I want them out of my life.
3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: Say: Consider two people who see life differently. The first person finds contentment when life is smooth and problem free. When problems arise, he tries to deal with them, but his contentment vanishes. The other person finds contentment in Christ alone. When problems arise, he deals with them and his contentment remains unshaken. Ask: Which of these two are you most like? Why? 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: One by one, say a prayer in front of each family member. Call each person’s name and ask Christ to give him or her contentment centered in Him alone. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Tell your parents that you would like to pray for their greatest concern. Ask them to let you know how you can pray for them. Pray for their concern each day this week. Let them know when you’ve prayed for them after the week is completed.
