Dear Parents and Carers, I hope that you all had a lovely holiday.
New Taps We asked the children how we could save money around the school. One idea was sensor taps to prevent taps being left on by the children. Mr Nicholson came to have a look at our taps and suggested that we had push taps installed as sensor taps are rather expensive. He also said he would install them for us for no charge! The taps in the boys and girls toilets were changed on Monday—the children are delighted with them! Thanks Mr Nicholson!

Movie Night Thanks to the PTA for yet another movie evening. After a couple of technical hitches the movie ‘Minions’ got underway and the children had a ball! If you can think of any other ways of raising money for the PTA, please see one of the members of the committee, or better still, pop along to their next meeting.

Governors We have a new governor, Louise Summers (Brett and Lucy’s mum). She is a co-opted member of the community. We would like to thank Lois McLaren who has been one of our Governors for the past couple of years, for all her hard work. Lois has resigned her position on the Governing Body.

Stannington First School Thursday Times Assertive Mentoring Meetings I hope that those parents who attended the recent Assertive Mentoring meetings found them a worthwhile opportunity to discuss your child’s learning and development. It is invaluable to your child’s learning that we have your support and that you are involved in the process of giving your child their learning targets. This week 68% of parents attended the meetings. It is important that you attend the meetings to ensure that parents, children and teachers know and understand the next steps in your child’s Learning. The next and final meetings of the year will take place on 19th and 20th April. Please make a note in your diary. If you were unable to attend the meeting, a copy of your child’s Assertive Mentoring Report is available from your child’s class teacher. Please contact the office to arrange a mutually convenient time. Assertive Mentoring is having a positive impact on all the children’s learning, however as with all new procedures we are discovering glitches along the way. We do appreciate your comments that were left in the ‘Comments box’ and ask for your patience and understanding whilst we introduce Assertive Mentoring.
Grants If anyone out there is proficient in applying for grants, please pop into the office and let us know. We need your help to make the school better! Nativity DVD Orders It is now time to finalise our order for the Christmas Play DVD. If you would like a copy please do so by Friday 4th March. A copy of the order form has been sent home in your child’s book bag. The Green Team Our Green Team are currently collecting plastic bottle tops. If you have any at home which you could collect and hand in that would be great!
Please remember to regularly check your emails and your child’s book-bag for any correspondence from school.
