YES Announcements December 7, 2017 The mission of Yorktown Elementary, working in partnership with all stakeholders, is to educate all students in order to achieve personal and academic excellence in an ever-changing world.

New Announcements: Tiger PAWS Meeting – Nominations for officers will take place at the meeting on Monday, January 8th at 5:30 in the YES Library. A description of the officer’s duties is attached. Elections will be held during the May meeting. Texas Roadhouse – While you are holiday shopping, be sure to print the attached flyer and give it to your server on Thursday, December 21st from 11:00am-10:00pm so that YES may benefit from your lunch with a 10% donation. YES Candy Cane Lane (Holiday Shop) – Students are invited to secretly shop for their loved ones at the annual winter holiday shop. This will be the first year that YES will self-fund the shopping experience with control over what is presented and sold. A personalization station will be available for select items so students can make their gifts special for loved ones. Preview day is Friday. Student shopping days will be December 12th14th. Please see the yellow flyer that will be sent home tomorrow with your child for further details. Class Composites – There are a few pictures of each class available for sale in the office for $12.00. Checks may be made out to YES-Yorktown Elementary School. First come, first serve. New Clubs Begin – F3-5th grade, Student Council-4th grade, and Literature Club-3rd grade met and will continue to meet on Wednesdays. Do you ever wonder if you have the right date and/or time of a YES event correct? The YES website, under the calendar, is a wonderful tool to make sure you have all those crucial dates and times correct.

Previously Noted/Important Information: Breakfast with Santa – The Muncie Elks Country Club is hosting the breakfast on December 16th. Further details can be found under the 11/30/17 weekly announcement attachment. Lost & Found – Numerous jackets, hats, shirts, etc. are overflowing in the lost and found bin. Students have been instructed to check the bin for missing items. If you are unable to locate your child’s coat etc. please feel free to come in and look over the items. The office is open 7:30 to 3:30. Any items remaining after the winter break will be donated to Goodwill. Tiger PAWS (PTO) Sponsored Pacers/Bankers Life Fieldhouse Family Night – Family and friends are invited to the Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks basketball game on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Please see the attached form for more details. Box Tops – YES collected 1,463 box tops for the month of November. Mrs. Sandberg’s class won an ice cream party with a class collection of 301. The next collection date is Thursday, December 21st.

Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file.
