Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections

STUDENTS PAGE April 6-9, 2011 How God Reveals Himself—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a teenager goes first): Say: If I discovered our house was on fire while I was standing in your bedroom, the one thing I would grab from that room before running to safety would be . . . This is important to me because . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:

2. Read Scripture: Hebrews 1:1-3 and 2 Peter 1:20-21 Truth • God reveals Himself to humanity through His Word and His Son. Untruths • God is whatever I imagine Him to be. • Every book that claims to be holy can teach us something about God. • All world religions are actually worshipping the same God. 3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.

4. Think It Through: Say: The Word of God is not dead. It is alive and active. Read Hebrews 4:12 out loud for your family. Ask every family member to turn to Psalm 19:7-8. Read aloud the first phrase of each couplet and ask your family to read the second. Example: You: “The instruction of the Lord is perfect,” Family: “reviving the soul;” Highlight the role Scripture can play in coming to know God better. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Include this thought in your prayer: Father, we don’t want to create some idea about You in our minds and assume that’s who You are. We want to know the real You from the pages of Scripture and the life of Your Son. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Ask your parents how they saw God when they were teens and how their understanding of Him has changed over time. Ask them to pray for you as you grow in your understanding of God.
