Longreach Market Report 10th October 2012
After missing a sale last week due to lack of numbers; Longreach Combined Agents yarded 1960 head. The Meatworks Market stayed on par with stores; especially the steers had good lifts. A limited yarding of bullocks over 600Kg sold to 160c/kg. The Feeder Steers 4-500Kg rang the bell at 183c/kg; averaging a very strong 174c/kg. A fair yarding of cows this week sold to a solid market; with 520Kg+ Meatworks cows selling to 135c/kg, averaging 127c/kg. A tidy line of Grey Brahman PTIC cows; in calf to crossbred bulls, sold very strongly, making 146c/kg with the lead pen weighing 510Kg. Fat heifers sold to 153c/kg, averaging 140c/kg. Increased competition in the store steers market had a very positive effect. Store steers 2-300Kg sold to 203c/kg, not seen in a few weeks. Vealer heifers sold to 178c/kg; with backgrounders & vealer abattoirs all active. Brahman cows & calves sold to $652.50; while Santa cows & calves sold to $747.50
