Utah Plays First Pac-12 Home Series Against Sixth-Ranked UCLA
The Utah baseball team plays its first Pac-12 home series this weekend, taking on sixthranked UCLA in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 30. The Utes are 3-3 in the Pac-12 (7-16 overall). In its last conference series, the team closed out a three-game set against Oregon with a 4-3 win in game three. Utah dropped its midweek game against BYU, 9-8. Despite 13 hits for one of its best offensive outputs of the season, the Utes had five errors on the defensive side in the loss. UCLA is 17-5 on the year and 4-2 in the Pac-12. The Bruins are ranked sixth in the latest Baseball America poll. The team has won two of three games against both Arizona State and Washington State in the conference. “UCLA has been one of the premier programs in the country over the past seven or eight seasons, so this weekend is going to be a huge challenge for us,” Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. “They have great pitching and they have been scoring a lot of runs this year. Our offense is going to have to execute and really get some timely hitting this weekend.” The series against Utah is just the second time this season the Bruins have played outside of California this season, and marks their first ever-trip to the state.
